You have been elected to the Kaplanville town council’s steering committee on energy. As a member of this committee, you are responsible for exploring the advantages and disadvantages of one kind of energy that will be used to power all of Kaplanville’s activities for the next 20 years. For this week’s discussion, you will work in a group of two or three students. Each group will focus on one source of energy, doing background research that begins on this site: “http://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/index.cfm?page=about_home and http://www.energy4me.org/energy-facts/energy-sources/ and continues to any other resources that you choose to use.
There are three different components to this week’s discussion:
You should collaborate with your group members early in the week by e-mail, AIM, or telephone and come up with a strategy to present the pluses and minuses of the energy source you have been assigned. You will divide up the work, having each group member make a separate post about some aspect of your energy source. Group members should be careful never to repeat what other members have already posted.
During the week, you will comment on other groups’ energy sources, and how suitable you think they might be for Kaplanville.
On Monday or Tuesday, you should make a post that contains your vote for which energy source you believe Kaplanville should adopt. Be sure to give a clear explanation of why you have voted as you have. You may change your vote if someone convinces you to do so.
