If you have had the opportunity to interact with persons from other cultures in business transactions, briefly describe your experiences with verbal and nonverbal communications. Provide at least three examples of nonverbal communications that you utilize that might be misinterpreted by someone in another culture. Then, explain what you could do differently to ensure you were not misinterpreted.

Chapter 5 in Adler (2008) sets the conditions for effective multicultural teams, and discusses the role diversity plays in both enriching a team and potentially creating challenges associated with lack of cohesion and miscommunication. Then, in Chapter 6, Adler (2008) begins to outline the requirements for successful global leadership, including various theories of leadership that can be applied successfully to the global arena.
What are the critical differences in required competencies between managing a domestic team and managing a multinational team? How can diversity enhance the productivity of multicultural teams? What strategies can leaders and managers employ to leverage the advantages of diversity, while minimizing the potential disadvantages of diversity on teams? How does diversity impact leadership effectiveness? Is it easier or harder to lead successfully in a diverse organization? Why? What core competencies are required for the success of global leaders? How do these competencies differ from those required for leaders working in a local, regional or national organization?

Compare two different theories of motivation and explain how each theory would be perceived in the United States and in the other country you have identified.
