Argument Synthesis
Your argument will bring together three important elements: claim, support and assumption.
Claim: A proposition you are attempting to prove.
Support: Facts or expert opinion used to support your claim.
Assumption: An underlying belief or principle about some aspect of the world and how it operates.
You will be using your thesis as the claim, and in your body you will provide the support. The assumption may be unstated, but it is implied within your paper.
For your assignment this week, develop a thesis (your claim) within your introduction, place your support in the body paragraphs, and provide a preliminary conclusion. Your conclusion will be updated for your final draft, based on what you have come up with in your support. Be sure to read through p. 129-138 well, to read about developing an argument, and Logos, Ethos and Pathos – techniques used to persuade and appeal to your audience. Facts alone will not convince your reader.
