At the bottom, click on “Archive”, which will take you to a list of every Astronomy Picture of the Day image they have posted since June 16, 1995.
You can choose to focus on either (A) galaxies, (B) stars or (C) nebulae. Once you have chosen a focus, pick 10 images from the archive of that type of object that we have not seen in class this year. NOTE: Planets or other Solar System objects are *not* an option for this assignment.
Study all ten images and read the caption associated with each. First, please provide a list of the ten images that you chose, and which date they were posted at APOD.
Next, please write a short essay (> 400 words) about your ten images. The essay must include the following elements:
1) How the images all relate to each other and to our study of that type of object.
2) Any peculiarities or things you learned from these images that we did not cover in class.
3) A more in depth description of one particular image you chose and why you found that one image to be more interesting than the other nine.
