Child Development Portfolio: Students will maintain a portfolio in which they will find articles or artifacts (poems, music, etc.) of interest that relate to the current unit of study. Students will collect a minimum of one entry per chapter to include in the portfolio. Students will write a brief summary of the portfolio entries and relate their material to the text and to their own lives. The portfolio will be turned in 3 times during the semester and is due on the day noted on the syllabus. The Portfolio Presentation will consist of a brief presentation to the class highlighting the materials included in the portfolio and relating it to the academic material of the course.
Portfolios must contain at least one entry from each of the following sources:
Scholarly literature (professional journals)
Mass media (newspapers, magazines)
Childrens literature
Childrens music
Internet/youtube is limited to one (1) entry per portfolio submission. You may use the internet to find the above material (i.e. you dont have to buy/copy a magazine or newspaper article; you can download that). Each entry (if you use a childrens book, you can document the book with complete bibliography and summarize it; a copy of one or a few pages would be helpful) must contain a 1-2 paragraph statement by the student of its relevance to the unit of study. Additionally, one may enrich the entry with a discussion of the relevance of the material to ones own life.
