Prompt: A 3-4 page (1,000-1,500 word) polished analysis of two texts (by two different authors). I have selected Ovid’s story of “Apollo and Daphne” and Kafka’s “Metamorphosis”.
All of our texts deal with transformation, or change, in some fashion. While some discuss actual physical transformations, others present metamorphoses that are more metaphorical or abstract. Discuss how at least two different texts engage the idea of transformation.
In all cases, be sure to move beyond simple comparison/contrast in order to tease out a singular, significant issue at work in both texts around which you can pivot your analysis. You must have a clear argumentative thesis about the texts in relationship to each other and must demonstrate analysis rather than mere observation.
You should ground your analysis in close reading of the texts. You will need to rely on the evidence offered by the language provided in the text to support your argument.
You are not required to use secondary sources in your paper; however, if you use critical articles or background research related to your, be sure to CITE all sources.
