Creating a Therapy Group: Consider what type of therapy group you might want to facilitate. Is it structured or not structured? Is there a theme? How long will the therapy group last? What else do you need to consider to effectively starting the process of developing your therapy group? From there, begin thinking about why you are choosing this group. Is there a need for this therapy group? How would this therapy group form, and where would it meet?

1.) Describe a type of therapy group that you are interested in facilitating
*Substance Abuse Therapy Group: intense outpatient group (IOP)
2.) Describe the population and explain why this population might benefit from this therapy group
*Women (adult) ages 19 and up. (not adolescent) Group will meet 4 days a week (mon-Thurs) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Length of treatment is 8 weeks for 32 sessions.
3.) Explain the purpose of the therapy group
*First to understand the process of addiction/use/abuse. Set up relapse treatment plans. Cover triggers. Second purpose would be to discuss women’s issues as they relate to their drug use; low self-esteem, physical/mental abuse, trauma(PTSD) etc. Third purpose to teach coping skills, communication skills and teach healthy life style choices.
4.) Explain the rationale for developing this therapy group
*Women are less likely to reach out for help. Added burden of children scared to loss their children. Stigma attached to being a drug addict. For trauma clients many feel “as if” what happened to them in the past was there fault.(quilt)
Research the Walden Library and select seven articles related to this type of therapy group and create an annotated bibliography (will up-load all 7) Must be annotated bibliography in APA format.
