I wrote a outline of this essay and showed to my tutor. I plan to first explaining what political power is in different theories; secondly it will focus on the challenges (e.g. globalization, new right and europeanisation ) to modern state. Then, it will analyse the changing nature of political power in the modern liberal democratic state. Finally, it will evaluate the influences of these changes for state.
And this is the feedback from my tutor ‘I think you are right to bring in different theories of the state, but you’ll need to make sure you show how power relates to these theories, so where does the power lie in Marxism, Elitism and Pluralism, and how do these theories inform your analysis? You might to well just to pick one theoretical approach and use that to analyse political power. I think this is an important decision because the theory you focus on here will colour the way you interpret the trends like Europeanisation, or the New Right.’
