• James Madison, Federalist Number 51 (February 6, 1788)
• James Madison, The Virginia (or Randolph) Plan (1787)
With reference to these sources, the Divine-Breen text, and the lectures, write and post an essay, 275-400 words long, in answer to one of the questions below. Please begin the essay with a “purpose statement,” a sentence or two indicating what question you will answer and with what sources. Post your essay directly in “Discussions,” in the “Discussion #6 Posts” link. Write it directly there, do not send it as an attached file.

1. Describe what you think were two or three of Madison’s strongest arguments for the Constitution. What were they directed at?
2. What was wrong with the Articles of Confederation?
3. Compare the New Jersey (or “Paterson”) Plan with the Virginia Plan. Why was the Virginia Plan more workable?
