Do video games encourage violent behaviourTerm Paper (20%)ú General Instruction:ú Length: Six (6) pages not including title page and bibliography, typed, double-spaced, 12 point font, 1? margins.ú The Term paper will be due in the last class (November 22, 2013)ú Topics: ú Do Video Games Encourage Violent Behavior? The topic I have chosen to do my research and term paper on is, do video games encourage violent behaviour? I will pursue both sides to this topic and see which one has more advantages/positive impacts then disadvantages/negative consequences on violent behaviour. First off to be discussed, is the no side/option. Video games do not encourage violent behaviour for many reasons that I will explain in-depth throughout this paper. I will first explain, how video games help reduce stress, followed by my second argument that video games enhance learning. In my final theme, video games provide entertainment and keep children at home instead of getting into potential trouble outside. On average, children spend about forty hours per week watching television and films, listening to music, playing video games, and spending time online. In a nationally representative survey of U.S. teens, 99% of boys and 94% of girls play[ed] video games. Indeed, it is difficult to find a video game devoid of violence, as an astounding 89% of video games have been found to include some violent content. Furthermore, more than half of E-rated (for Everyone) games contain violence.http://www.pamf.org/parenting-teens/general/media-web/videogames.htmlMillions of people play video games and have played them over the past decade with nothing bad occurring to them. However, many people are blaming violent video games for some teenagers acting violent and going on rampages. With so much violence happening in the world today especially being showed, on TV from the media, children have become immune to seeing violence. Video games are an outlet for people to overcome anxiety by providing entertainment and reducing stress. Gentile, D. A., Lynch, P., Linder, J. & Walsh, D. (2004).
