Ethic and Abortion

BACKGROUND Once again its Saturday evening and you are hanging out and talking with Sam.* Sam, launches into another monologue about ethics, in general, and the abortion issue, in particular. This time Sam says:You know, these protesters at the abortion clinics are crazy. Everyone has to decide these things for themselves. What is right and wrong depends upon your personal beliefs. If it is right according to your personal beliefs, then it is right. If it is wrong according to your personal beliefs, then it is wrong. In other words, what?s right or wrong is only right or wrong relative to an individual?s personal beliefs. That?s all there is to it.Seeing the slightly skeptical look on your face, Sam follows up with this comment:If people would just get this through their heads?I mean what I just explained to you?then we wouldn?t have any intolerance in this world. There just simply wouldn?t be any place for it.Your TaskAs it happens, you have just finished reading Chapter 19 and Chapter 21, Section 5 of The Fundamentals of Ethics, and you want to argue against Sam?s position on the basis of what you have learned. To that end, please do the following.(a) On the basis of Sam?s first set of comments (i.e. the first block-indented and italicized paragraph), clarify what Sam?s position is by doing the following.(i) State the name of Sam?s philosophical view in Shafer-Landau?s terminology;(ii) Explain what that philosophical view entails (i.e. what the substance of that view is); and(iii) Explain your basis for ascribing that philosophical position to Sam (in other words, explain why it is reasonable to interpret what Sam says so as to attribute to Sam the particular view that you named in (a)(i) and explained in (a)(ii)).(b) Argue against what Sam says in Sam?s second set of comments (i.e. the second block-indented and italicized paragraph) by applying what you learned from reading Section 5 (entitled Moral Objectivity Supports Intolerance) of Chapter 21.Further InstructionsRemember that you must divide the elements of your answer up by letters and numbers as shown above. (Have a look at the General Instructions for Weekly Questions if you are unclear on this point.)Also, you do not need to break your arguments down into numbered steps, though you may choose to do so. Regardless, you should make your reasoning as clear and precise as possible, so that I can tell what you are trying to prove and how you are trying to prove it.Finally, I want to make clear that there is a correct answer to this question?though, obviously, students may frame it in different, but equally effective, ways. In keeping with what I said at the start of the course, this is in no way an open-ended or tell me how you feel question. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully. This may mean arguing against some of your preconceived views. CLICK HERE TO GET MORE ON THIS PAPER !!!CLICK HERE TO ORDER THIS PAPER AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE
