Examine how U.S policies surrounding their national security and intelligence have transformed following the September 11 attacks under former American president George. W. Bush. In my paper, I will look at the Patriot Act, and the culmination of policies which became known by pundits and various government officials working in the administration of former U.S president George W. Bush as the Bush Doctrine. Although it came into effect in 2002, it was actually being articulated as far back as the early 1990s. I will explore what these aforementioned polices are, what their objectives are, what problems they sought to address, what kinds of influences constrain and create opportunities for the development and implementation of intelligence strategies, and ultimately, attempt to understand their implications on the future of policy development in the realms of national security and intelligence gathering in the U.S.
