The Coal Seam Gas (CSG) industry has been widely reported as having significant environmental concerns in regards to water quality. Identify and conduct a risk assessment on the contaminants of concern in CSG water; focus on the CSG water quality from the Surat Basin in Australia (international data is also acceptable). Assess the risk of CSG water in regards to treatment difficulty and reuse hazards. Common contaminants of concern include but are not limited to, sodium, SAR, fluoride, strontium, boron, alkalinity, and salinity. Provide a reasoned opinion as to the overall risk that the CSG industry poses to water quality in Australia. This will need to include expected volumes of water from the CSG industry, impact on groundwater (especially the Great Artesian Basin), and risk to land used for food production.
A minimum of 25 Scientific/Engineering Journal References and 4 textbook references is required in the reference list.
