there are multiple (and sometimes conflicting) issues here, but the commonality is tht in each case these religious and secular groups are linking food and morality and arguing that food consumption and food production must be part of our moral landscape. Many argue that religion and culture, including secular organizations, must be part of the solution and practically, churches, synagouges and mosques are rethinking food and consumption, here in Gainesville, in the US and abroad.
Despite these efforts, many people do not see food as a moral issue – it is just there, in the store, on the plate, but not the subject of moral discourse. Based on the class readings and class discussions, why do you think this is so? To what extent could, or should, religion play a role in rethinking food and consumption?
