Health Policy Case Study Analysis Topic and Interview Selection
1. In 100-250 words, prepare a brief biographical description of the interviewee and the public health policy they initiated.
a. Select a real-world decision maker of public health policy for a population or aggregate. This decision maker may be (or may have been) involved in policy regarding either planning, creating, or implementing a health policy. The policy must have already been developed and implemented.
b. The policy must NOT be a clinical care policy for individual care. The policy involved may include public or community health, legislative or regulatory, professional organization (nursing-oriented), advanced nursing practice, health plan, or hospital plan.
2. Resources for potential interviewees may include: legislative health committee members (state or federal); a lobbyist for a health care discipline or association such as nursing or medicine; a public policy leader within a nursing or healthcare organization (i.e., American Nurses Association or Arizona Nurses Association, American Hospital Association or Arizona Hospital Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Emergency Nurses Association, Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses, etc.); a consumer advocacy group representative such as AARP; Arizona State Board of Nursing, etc.
3. The student must consult with faculty in advance regarding the selection of the person/role and policy.
Health Policy Case Study Analysis Interview
1. Prepare an outline describing the interview of the health decision maker identified in Module 2.
2. Schedule and conduct an interview with your selected real world health policy decision maker. This can be accomplished either in person or via phone. The interview should be completed by the end of Module 5.
3. Include the following from the interview:
a. Career overview, education, and present position.
b. Description of the health care policy issue.
c. Outline of the story: opening, unfolding, climax ? that describes the process of defining, constructing, approving, and implementing the health care issue.

Health Policy Case Study Analysis Presentation
1. Develop a PowerPoint presentation of a case study analysis from the information gleaned in the interview of the person/role and policy from Module 3. The case study should tell the story of the policy process. Necessary information needed from the interview includes the following:
a. Opening of the story: Beginning or background setting, including the context, need, significant issues, decisions, or dilemmas involved. The opening of the story should include a description of the main people and positions involved.
b. Unfolding of the story: Includes the key incidents, episodes, or events related to the policy as experienced by the decision maker who was interviewed.
c. Climax and closing of the story: Includes the moment of decision and any additional implications or events important to the story. Closing of the story should reveal the current status of the policy.
The slides should contain information about the Health Policy Issue in addition to speaker notes.
