The Department of Transportation, OSHA, and MOSHA are departments within the federal and state government that Mrs. Jane Taylor has to deal with whenever there is an infraction on the job. Mrs. Jane Taylor is the Senior Safety Manager at three MBM Services location, from New York to North Carolina. Mrs. Taylor received her Undergraduate degree in Occupational Health and Safety, worked for three years in the New York Public Transportation and worked as a District manager in safety while working in Fedex. She is 5 credits away from receiving her masters in Occupational Safety. Taylor has been the senior safety manager at the Syracuse NY location for a year now and is responsible for the transportation aspect of the business at this location. The interview showed areas that have not been covered in class especially when it comes to the Department of Transportation and their regulations.
MBM Services is a distribution company, the company transport products and produce for retailers such as Safeway. It is the only company with its own Transportation Department. The company itself has to deal with different state and federal government regulations, such as OSHA, MOSHA, VOSHA, FDA and DOT. The interview focused mainly the regulations that have to be followed through the DOT and/or OSHA. There are work-related incidents and accidents that occur on the job, some of which have been covered in class and others that have not been mentioned because they are specific to the job. Taylor deals with the truck drivers, their safety learning, and is also in charge of other managers under her supervision making sure that whenever she is traveling to other locations, the rules can be applied.”

-We only have to deal with them when there is incident on the job or because of a disgruntled worker
2.What Impact on profitability / safety record of the company do you think there would be if your safety dept was a division of your production dept?

• Puts employees at great risk and others at risk
3. Do the OSHA, & DOT only get involved when an injury is reported, or do they do some sort of policing work, with surprise investigations and such..
-The FDA deals with the production team so I have no control or direct interaction with them.
.OSHA mainly is involved when there is an injury that meets the requirements that they have set. The DOT have their own guidelines that the drivers have to follow….the drivers have to weigh the truck and trailer before going on the road before on all roads in the united states there are limits on how much weight can be put on them and how much a truck and trailer should weigh. Another law set by DOT is that of endanger driving—if a driver has only one hand on the wheel that is endangered driving, if they are caught on the phone the company is charged about 11,000 and the driver is fined 2750…when this happens it is very possible if not probable that the driver will be laid off..”
