Section A: Plan of the Investigation
The plan of the investigation should include:
� the subject of the investigation, which may be formulated as a question.
� the methods to be used in the investigation.
This is a relatively brief but important section. A sharply focused question and a clearly structured plan

Section B will list possible motivations for Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union from a wide variety of sources including textbooks, scholarly articles, historian’s opinions and documentaries, whilst organising them chronologically within long and short term reasons. The two key sources analysed in section C are works by respected historians and experts in this area. Section D evaluates whether Hitler’s aims were based on strategic long term aims or whether Operation Barbarossa was developed in light of the quick-moving events happening in Europe two years after the start of WWII,so a reasoned conclusion can be reached in section E.”
