There is an ongoing ancient debate that does not seem to either relent or abate. This debate is about whether or not human beings do know anything at all when they are born into this world. While some scholars have come to believe that people are born with a lot of hidden knowledge in their minds (i.e., brains), others have concluded that human beings are born with minds (i.e., brains) that are totally blanktabula rasaand needed to be filled through the process of knowledge acquisition. For example, Plato argues that at birth, every human being has a reservoir of almost everything he or she needs know. This reservoir of knowledge, according to Plato is, however, a hidden well of knowledge in his or her subconscious. In Platos view, this knowledge is about Beauty, Goodness, Love, Justice, and others. To tap into this reservoir of knowledge and effectively access its contents, every individual needs to do his or her best to discover it through the process of critical thinking, reasoning, and analysis. Aristotle, Platos best student, however, disputed the conclusions of his teacher about the source of human knowledge. To Aristotle, every human being is born with a blank mind (i.e., brain). In light of this conclusion, Aristotle argues that the human mind is a blank slate. That is, the human mind is a blank slate that needs to be filled with acquired knowledge. Such knowledge, according to Aristotle, is acquired through the five sensessight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. The differences in and debates about the views of Plato and Aristotle as to the true source of human knowledge has continued to our dayand will definitely continue on beyond our generation and into the future.

Whether or not any of these two scholars and their adherents is accurate in their views as to the true source of human knowledge and its acquisition, one thing remains true. That is, the knowledge, ideas, ideologies, concepts, views, theories, principles, and pronouncements of the previous generations of human beings seem to exert significant impact (be it positive or negative) on both the present and subsequent generations of human beings. In light of this conclusion, some of the key questions we are always confronted with include but not limited to the following: In what ways does the knowledge of the Dead impact the living and the future generation of human beings? Of what value are the philosophical ideas and conclusions of the great philosophers to the living and future generations in terms of their general way of lifecultural practices? In what ways do the living breathe, ravish, consume, etc. the ideas of the great philosophers of both the past and the present? In your view, what are some of the main implications of the daily interactions people from the present generation of human beings have with the great scholars of the past through their access to the legacies of chests full of ideas, ideologies, concepts, views, theories, principles, pronouncements, etc?

While sometimes the living seem to be completely overwhelmed and paralyzed by the Ghosts of Dead Philosophers, at other times, they seem to either successfully ward off or exorcize some of these Ghosts. In your essay, explain in detail why the Living seems to live perpetually under the overpowering shadows and spells of the philosophies of the Dead. Explain in detail the implications of this control of the Ghosts of the Dead on the future progresssuccesses and failuresof human beings as they strive to improve their lives in every sphere of human endeavor. Provide real life examples to substantiate your views, arguments, debates, discussions, etc.

In your write-up, provide a list of references you have consulted. Use endnotes rather than footnotes. Use the Chicago Style of referencing. While very short quotations should be placed in quotation marks, long quotations must be indented. Students who fail to give credit to scholars for using ideas from their work will be penalized. So, please do your best to avoid plagiarism.
