John Dominic Crossan portrays Jesus as a revolutionary. What does Crossan mean by this characterization? How does Crossan describe the impact of Jesus as a revolutionary on Christianity? According to your assigned readings from Matthew and the Pauline Epistles in the Andrea/Overfield text (Chapter 7), what were the primary virtues taught by Jesus? Now, consider the beliefs of the Jews and particularly the beliefs of the Jewish zealots. Compare and contrast the actions and teachings of Jesus to those of the zealots at Masada. Why do you think the followers of Jesus eventually succeeded
in converting the Empire to Christianity while the Jewish rebellions were put
down? Was Christianity more appealing, and if so, how?
