College is a time to experience new things. You have the unique opportunity to attend campus events
and programs to enrich your college experience. That does not have to stop when you graduate. Your
community has opportunities for you to experience new things and to grow.
We all have comfort zones. There are groups of people who we are more comfortable around than
others. For this assignment you need to leave your comfort zone and experience something new and
that you find uncomfortable. While you are there try to embrace your surroundings. Don’t sit in the
corner. Be involved in what you are doing. Talk to people to learn more.
Examples include religious ceremonies, concerts, conventions, festivals, meetings, or other community
events. If you are uncomfortable around homosexual individuals locate a pride event or visit Stonewall.
If you are uncomfortable around people with tattoos see when the Lehigh Valley Tattoo Expo is taking
place and attend. If you are uncomfortable around guns go to a gun show in Ag Hall in Allentown.
This assignment will take research. Look into what is happening around the Lehigh Valley or where you
live. Your proposal is a one paragraph description of what you plan on attending.
The paper should be written in an essay format and include the following:
1. What you attended and why this was leaving your comfort zone.
2. A description of what you attended. I should feel like I was there after reading it.
3. Was it what you expected? How was it different?
4. How did you feel while you were there?
5. Do you feel any different about what you attended? Why or why not?
6. Is experiencing new things important? Why or why not?
Do not write one through six on your paper and answer each question individually. Incorporate all of
the points into an essay.
