The second case provides some specific information on the challenges of dealing with the media, as well as the challenges of dealing with suppliers. (You are not expected to directly address the rug issue in your write-up; this case was assigned just so you see the types of challenges a successful firm can face.) The “Experimental Roots” article provides another perspective on how firms achieve success. All of these cases are a few years old, and do not contain the most recent information on IKEA. After reading the assigned material, update your knowledge by consulting other sources for the current state of IKEA’s strategy and its performance. Then, considering the challenges and opportunities facing IKEA today, write an analysis suggesting what IKEA’s managers should do to maximize their success (however you want to define this) going forward. Be sure to gather information from a variety of different sources when bringing your knowledge of the company up-to-date, not just the company’s website or other sources that may be biased by viewing everything in a positive light for the company. In writing the case analysis, refer to Appendix A. I will use the checklist in this appendix when grading.
