Task Description:
Your first assignment aims to develop academic research methods as well as skills in critical analysis and writing. It will assess your ability to:
– Gather appropriate information from a variety of scholarly and reputable sources (using research techniques exercised in this assessment item);
– Through an Annotated Bibliography, write a critical analysis of selected key authorities’ argument regarding a particular/movement within the Modernist period.
This assessment item is complemented with the V.A.R.T (Visual Art Research Tutorial) for further instruction, as well as a V.A.R.A Exemplar. The V.A.R.A. Tutorial and V.A.R.A. exemplar can be found at the same site on Learning@Griffith.
Specific topics will be discussed further in Tutorials from Week 2.

Research Skills (10 marks)
Ability to: Research and identify appropriate sources; Evaluate the quality and relevance of selected sources.
Quality of Analysis (10 marks)
Ability to: Critically analyse sources; Summarise selected sources effectively.
Written Skills (5 marks)
Ability to: Demonstrate clarity in English expression; Use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling; Structure paragraphs effectively.
Referencing (5 marks)
Ability to: Use the Harvard Author-Date referencing style; Correctly reference ideas, quotes and paraphrased material (if used).
