To create a proposal of 2,000 words from a brief which I have already created (The brief can be seen in the attached file)
The following was the scenario in which I had to create my brief for:
• You are working as Marketing Assistant for a Health and Fitness Centre in Hatfield, and falling numbers of members mean that there is concern about the competition in the area, in terms of facilities offered, pricing, and other issues
The Research proposal needs to include, the following sections:
1. The Client Brief: Background
2. The Proposal: Objectives
3. The Proposal: Research Design
4. The Proposal: Data Collection – methodology
5. The Proposal: Sampling plan
6. Issues for discussion
7. The Proposal: Data Analysis
For this piece of coursework, you will take the brief (which I have attached), and prepare a response as if you were working in a Market Research Agency.
1. The Proposal: Objectives
Identify the issues you want to suggest should be explored in much more detail, and decide what specific objectives the research is going to achieve. Also decide what it cannot do i.e. ensure that you make it clear the boundaries of the proposed project or else you may be asked to conquer the world for nothing!
3. The Proposal: Research Design
What sort of research project is it that you are proposing? Will the research be descriptive, causal, exploratory, etc? It is important to give justification for your design.
4. The Proposal: Data Collection – Methodology
[a] Determine whether you are collecting qualitative and/or quantitative data. You will need to focus here on specific data collection techniques. Do not be tempted to use all the techniques available, although you may select more than one. Most techniques are used in specific ways. Try and read articles from the International Journal of Market Research to get a feel for how research designs and data collection methods are used commercially.
[b] Specify clearly how you will collect your data.
5. The Proposal: Sampling Plan
[a] Bearing in mind the type of research design which you think is suitable for this research problem, what type of data are you going to collect? What categories of research are you going to carry out? [Note: You will not actually carry out this research project you are submitting a proposal in response to the brief in the hope that it will be accepted by the client and you will get the contract.
[b] In the light of the above identify what sampling method is most appropriate for the research problem in hand. If you are suggesting two different methodologies then you need to bear this in mind when discussing the sampling approach(s). Identify the population of interest and whether a sampling frame will be used. Specify how the sample size is decided and indicate the relationship between the sample size and the population of interest.
Note: the two sections above need to be considered together, not sequentially.
6. Issues for discussion
This section should highlight anything which needs clarification, which might cause problems in the carrying out of the research, any areas where there may be ambiguity – anything where Client and Researcher need to agree, discuss and define. THIS SECTION IS VERY SHORT
7. Data Analysis
How, precisely, will your data be analysed, and what will the outputs be (NOT the results – the outputs – what type of analysis/crosstabulation/discussion can the Client/reader expect?)
Important:
– Professional writing
– 10 to 20 Harvard References and Biographies combined
– I will happily give you extra information to make it easier
