MAN212 Organisational Behaviour
ASSIGNMENT 1 DETAILS – DISCUSSION PAPER
Task
Students are to consider the following statement and then answer the questions which follows:
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is one of the hottest issues in corporate boardrooms these days, partly because it is becoming increasingly important to employees and other stakeholders. Why have stakeholders given CSR more attention recently? What are some of the arguments for and against CSR?
Length
Students have a range of 1750 – 2000 words in which to address the question
Guidance
o You will need to define CSR
o Consider different stake holder perspectives
o Consider some of the positive and negative arguments for CSR
o Consider ethical organisational behaviour
o Where possible use examples to support your argument
• Students should look at a wide range of scholarly resources to support their discussion. There is no mandated minimum number of resources that students must use, as they should be guided by the need to reinforce or support an argument rather than any perceived need to meet a quota of references.
• “Scholarly resources” does not include sites like Wikipedia (where there is no credible quality assurance process), sites where other people have posted their own essays or presentations (like www.scribd.com), or most informal online sources (eg blogs, low-quality newsletters, etc). If a student is in doubt over the credibility of the source, he or she should contact the lecturer before incorporating that information.
• There will be things you will need to read that will serve only as background information to inform your analysis of the models; not every resource you read to prepare you to answer the question needs to feature in your answer. Only discuss the information in those that provide a relevant view on the question I have set.
• You are to use the CDU Harvard referencing system, available at http://www.cdu.edu.au/library/downloads/pdf/CDU%20Harvard%20Referencing.pdf.
o Failure to use this system, or incorrect use of it, will be penalised.
o Students requiring assistance with their referencing should contact Julie Cartwright, the Law and Business Liaison Librarian at Julie.Cartwright@cdu.edu.au. Make sure you leave sufficient time for Julie to assist you.
o In-text citations are included in the word limit. The reference list at the end of the report is not included in the word limit.
Submission
• The assignment is due midnight Friday Week 5. Students not in Darwin must ensure they know what time this corresponds to in their time zone.
• Submission is to be via Learnline. The submission link closes at the deadline. All submissions after that time are late and are to be emailed to the lecturer
Marking Criteria

• Grasp of Concepts and Ideas

• Eloquence of Expression
Marks will be deducted for the following (these will be strictly enforced):
