This assignment is worth 10% of your grade for this course.
This assignment has eight steps. (Due 9/18/13)
Step one: Identify a specific job or position relating to either your major, or the field most related to your current short or long-term career goals. Share results of this step with your instructor and gain her or his approval of your topic before advancing to step two.
Step two: Use the Occupational Outlook Handbook (ref. 331.7/occupational), or another career information book located in the Edward G. Schumacher Memorial Library to learn more about the job-type you chose when completing step 1, above. Write a one paragraph summary of your findings. [15pt]
Step three: Locate two Web sites associated with the sort of job you chose. For each site, write a paragraph stating the title or name of this site, the sort of information it contains, and how it relates to the job-type you selected. (20 pt)
Step four: Locate a journal or magazine article directly or indirectly related to your chosen job type and write a 1 ? 3 paragraph summary of the same. (15pt)
Step five: List the two web sites, one article, and one book you used, using current Modern Language Association (MLA) works cited format. Ask your teacher or the librarian. It?s easy! [10 pt]
Step six: Write a paragraph reflecting upon your experience using the Edward G. Schumacher Memorial Library, including what struck you as positive, and where the library could have better met your needs. [10pt]
Step seven: Prepare and deliver a 2 – 4 minute presentation of your findings. As part of your introduction, state what job type you chose and why. Your body should be a paraphrasing of your summaries. For your conclusion, state how what you discovered matches up with your current major at NC and how this information fits into your short and long term plans. You do not need to write your speech out. Instead, prepare brief notes and use an informal delivery. [20pt]
Step eight: Submit the following to your instructor on the day of your presentation, or the assigned due date for this project: [10pts]
i. A summary of information from step 2, above
ii. The two paragraphs from step 3, above.
iii. The summary from step 4 above
iv. Your list from step 5, above
v. Your library paragraph
