Concert Report Instructions:Three (3) concert reports are required: one for an instrumental concert, one for a voice/choral concert, and one for a piano concert. Performances must be of classical music, and you must attend the entire concert. Concert dates and information can be found at: www.etsu.edu/music/events. Please plan your work schedule accordingly. To receive full credit, you must follow all the instructions below. Reports that are not stapled will not be accepted.Format and Length: Times New Roman or similar, 12-point font, double spaced, stapled, and a minimum of three (3) pages. Have your concert program signed by a faculty member in the audience, and staple the program to the back of your paper. Reports are graded both on content and grammar, so be sure to use spell check and proof read before submitting your final draft. In the upper left hand corner, include the following information:First and Last NameStudent IDConcert Report # ____, Name of ConcertDate of ConcertConcert Report Content: You can begin your report with a brief description of the concert you attended, including name or type of ensemble or soloists, the location, date and time, and the music you heard.After this introduction, you should focus on individual pieces, what elements you enjoyed the most, and your reaction to the performances. Topics to discuss include musical styles, genres, and forms, musical themes, or comparisons to works we have studied in class. Were there any unusual instruments or effects? Was the music programmatic ?You can also provide your subjective opinions about elements of the performance. Was there a good balance between the melody and accompaniment? Was there a variety of dynamics? For vocal or instrumental performances, did you like the quality of the performer?s sound and tone? This is not a research paper. If you pay attention and take notes during the performance, you will have ample material. However, if you use any research materials, such as program notes, you must properly cite your sources in Chicago Manual of Style format with footnotes. Wikipedia is not an academic resource. If you do not know how to write citations and footnotes, don?t!
