The main objective of this assignment is to provide students with an opportunity to develop problem solving and
strategic project management skills.
You have to develop a project proposal building on a “real project”. The
nature of the project (i.e. type, field area) is a group’s choice. Your group are to demonstrate the ability to use the
structures and processes of professional project management.
The proposal should not exceed 2000 words and should be formatted using 1.5 line spacing and font size of 12pt.
Please note that the word limit does not include section 6 Approach and methodology and the appendix.
♂ Purpose of the document is to outline a potential project in such a way that the organisation can see the benefit
of the project to them and are likely to accept it. It also entails identifying any resources etc involved with the
project.
♂ Audience of the proposal document is both the client and the University (i.e. DR Carmen Joham)
Structure
1. Title page
♂ A Title – short title which makes a memorable and easy name for the project in the minds of all the stakeholders.
I suggest only 3 to 6 words if possible. (E.g. Improving ＃. By/through/with ＃ E.g. Developing
＃by/through/with….E.g. Enhancing ＃ by/through/with
♂ To: Client＊s name, position title and organisation
♂ From: Consultants (need to have a group name)
♂ Copy to: Dr Carmen Joham , University of South Australia
♂ Date
2. Background
♂ This needs to outline your understanding of the client＊s requirements and background of the organisation in
which the project will be conducted. Only include those aspects which are relevant to the project. This will
demonstrate that you understand the problems or opportunity that want working on, and also will help ensure
that you have a shared a mutual understanding of the problem or opportunity that they want to address
♂ This should include a brief Outline of the project and the reason why the project is needed (rationale) and
situation summary.
3. Overall aim and purpose
♂ Broad outline of what is intended, a statement of what the project aims to achieve.
♂ The aim will summarise the overall scope of the project – what is included, limitations, and what is not included)

♂ In the scope you should state what the project is not going to do (project boundaries and/or limitations)
4. Objectives

5. Outcomes
♂ In this section write a sentence about what the organisation is able to do as a result of the project being
undertaken. You may include measures that show that outcomes have been achieved. It may also include a list
of specific outcomes and how they will benefit the organisation
♂ It can also describe the deliverable (report, manual, research report, presentation and so on) (these are outputs
)
6. Approach and methodology
♂ In this section you will outline the way you will go about the work of the project (Project organisation and
accountabilities) and refer to the following Project Management tools:
♂ The WBS. A work breakdown structure and a responsibility matrix
♂ The milestones
♂ Time plan – beginning, middle , end, and show any holidays etc. this can be shown as a Gantt chart (i.e.
schedule)
♂ Resources
♂ Elements related to time/costs/any risks/people involved/responsibilities and reporting arrangements (Project
details)
7. Resources
♂ In this section, please outline (name) the resources you might need for the organisation and those that will be
contributed so both parties are clear about obligations. You also need to prepare estimates for only two
resources associated with the project.
8. Risk
♂ This is where you demonstrate your understanding of risk management. I suggest you refer to lecture notes
from week 4. A couple of lines identifying potential risks and providing an overview of control
systems/contingency plan is expected. As an attachment (appendix) you will need to have a proper Risk plan.
9. Recommendation/Conclusion
♂ At this point you summarize the key points of the project plan, solution strategy, opportunities and benefits.
