Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: Request the legislators support for current legislation (example: Michigan Senate Bill 2); provide information to the legislator on nationally accepted recommendations related to the scope of practice for advanced practice registered nurses (example: IOM recommendation) ; provide information to legislators about a key health problem you believe is not being adequately addressed; present your view on the impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act (2010).
Procedures:
1. Identify your legislators in the Michigan House of Representatives
2. In the first 2-4 sentences Identify the issue of concern and the position you are asking the legislator to support. Present a brief summary of the issue and highlight 3-4 points (with rationale). In your conclusion, include a brief re-statement of the action you would like the legislator to take.
3. Ensure that you use the proper titles in addressing the legislator.
4. Remember to include your contact information.
