Keep an eye out for how each source might expand your research. Does the author respond to any main scholars that you could investigate?
• I say: Analyze the source’s usefulness and relevance to your question. Why do you agree/disagree with in the argument presented? How do the author’s claims impact your thinking? Do they intersect with (or challenge) other sources?
• Keywords: Make a list of the keywords that either helped you get to the source or that helped you make a connection between the source and your topic.
Note: For the remaining sources, you must only provide the sources citation.
Other tips:
• Look for the network. Keep an eye out for how each source might expand your research. Does the author respond to any main scholars that you could investigate?
• Keep thinking about your Research Question. Remember that it can (and in many cases should) evolve as you read more. Keep evaluating how sources influence your inquiry.
• There is no magic length to the full entry, but you must be thoughtful and detailed. It would seem, though, that anything less than 250 words may miss something important, either in the “They Say” or “I Say” portion. However, it is important to be precise enough to focus on the relevant information rather than trying to restate everything the source said.
• You will be graded on the thoroughness, thoughtfulness, and timeliness of these entries.
