1. Scenario: The University student government and administration are awarding one grant for a not-for-profit group that identifies a need and develops a solution that will serve the local community. The guidelines are:
The service must be mission driven and benefit the SDU community or a specific population within the immediate community surrounding SDU.
The program/service may be either a single project or an ongoing program. It must break even financially, and if ongoing, it must be self-sustaining; it may charge a minimal fee for services or solicit donation from other sources, but projections for these numbers must be limited.
It may be volunteer driven, but typically will need a paid administrator (paid a legal and reasonable market rate) and volunteers who work less than 6hrs/week each.
The program/service must be based on the Metro Campus and meet legal standards (for example, licensing requirements or health laws such as no cooking in home kitchens).
If selected, SDU will provide a start-up grant of $5,000 as well as limited on–campus space (a small office, classroom, meeting room or space in the SUB, for example)
2. Working with your assigned team, identify, research, and write a proposal to address a specific opportunity/need in the SDU or immediate community. The project must be one that could be implemented relatively easily without significant capital expense (such as building a new building or revamping an existing organization). To be successful, keep your proposed project simple.
