-Three possible options:
(i) You accept the premises of the Basic argument for skepticism, and thus accept the conclusion: you are a skeptic. If so, say so explicitly. Also, back up your position with argumentation: explain what, exactly, is wrong with Descartes? response to skepticism and with Moore?s response to skepticism.
OR:
(ii) You reject premise (1) as either false (rebutting defeater) or otherwise without sufficient justification (undercutting defeater): you think that knowledge does not require ruling out alternatives ? or at least we don?t have sufficient reason to think so. If so, say so explicitly. Also, back up your position with argumentation: perhaps you can use Moore?s and/or Chisholm?s arguments for your position. Or perhaps you have arguments of your own!
OR:
(iii) You reject premise (2) as either false or otherwise without sufficient justification: you think that your evidence IS sufficient to rule out alternatives to your perceptual belief that the external world exists and is accurately represented by your perceptual experiences. If so, say so explicitly. Also, back up your position with argumentation: perhaps you will defend Descartes? argument, or perhaps you have arguments of your own!
VI. Conclusion: Summarize what you have accomplished in your paper: roughly one sentence per section of your paper (note: if your paper is running long already, you may omit the conclusion without reduction of your grade).
