Individual Assignment
Film a small video clip – minimum length 2 minutes, maximum length 3 minutes – about an issue of sustainability you have seen in the Auckland region, then write about it.
a) Introduction – The video clip (10 marks)
– using either a digital camera or phone camera – film one of the following situations:

• An example of a situation, or good practice in the Auckland area that is helping to contribute towards a more sustainable existence
Your video clip must clearly demonstrate that you have filmed the situation you have chosen, preferably showing you in it at some point.
Then, depending on your chosen situation of a good, practice write the following report:

3. Example 1.2 (10 marks)
a) Describe the good (sustainable) situation/practice and where in Auckland you found it. (2)
b) Explain what you believe is the background, and cause of this situation/practice, and some ethical implications to the community who are its beneficiaries. (3)
c) Suggest how individuals, communities, and/or governments, might successfully extend this good situation/practice to other areas where it currently either does not occur, or is poorly supported. (2)
d) From an engineering perspective, what might be the design, development, production, or waste mitigation features of this situation/practice that make it successful. (3)
(800 words)
(Total = 20 marks)
(NB – Think of this as an engineering consulting contract you are competing for, against other bidders)
2. Assignment submission
a) For the options chosen for your report, a minimum of 6 references, properly cited, in APA referencing format is expected. These may include credible newspaper or magazine reports, published books, or Journal papers, but NOT Wikipedia entries.
b) Submit your final written report to Turnitin no later than Wednesday midnight
c) Hand in at the beginning of the Engineering Studies class session on Friday May 11th:,
A DVD of your Video clip in .wmv format, in an envelope together with a hard copy of your Report.
(Ensure your name, student number, and topic title, are on the Header page of your report, AND on the outside of the envelope).
d) If any of the above deadline dates are not met, your assignment will be deemed to be late, and penalised with a deduction of 1 mark per day (or part of) that it is late.
