Begin with the course textbook or the reading that is recommended as essential and then move on to more detailed works in the bibliography you have been given. Do not rely on just one or two sources – this will make your work too narrow. Do not neglect articles – in a brief span they often contain a high concentration of information and ideas. But, above all, read critically. Think about whether you agree with what you find in your reading. If historians disagree (as they usually do), which interpretation do you find most convincing and why?
