In Chinese media Culture, using Qing Dynasty, and the fantasy of going back to the monarchy society has arrived to its peak in Chinese modern television culture. Many television drama shows, or reality shows are using the Forbidden City as the foundation of the story line. The modern media representation has changed younger generations view on history; also the media has influenced the tourism culture in China (brings millions of tourists to Tian an men Square and the Forbidden City as well).
The influence of media has always been one of the biggest forces of influencing tourism in China, and western cultures. After Cultural Revolution, China opens its doors to the rest of the world, Western Artists like Andy Warhol, Marina Abramovic did some art works based on the ‘new’ China in their eyes. Their artworks certainly influenced many other people’s opinions about China in western countries.
This paper is trying to prove that Media through any type of art forms really helped China (especially Beijing) to be recognized in a new way internationally, and pushed tourism (mass tourism) in the city.
Please use example of Tian-an- Men square, and Forbidden City as a starting point. The historic meaning of these two spots has been changing from time to time due to the political power shifts, and how media portrays these places differently. The approach of art forms (like Andy Warhols photographs etc) shows a different perspective from western cultures pushes modern tourism to these places.
