3.Japanese sensibilities. Using selections from “the Kokinshu” and Sei Shonagon, analyze and discuss the Japanese view of romantic love and propriety in social conventions. Keep in mind that Japanese culture is very strict in its ordering of social customs, especially love and marriage, and Shonagon’s witty comments shed light on what many people felt but would never say in public. Finally, how different are Medieval Japan’s ideas about love and society from those of modern Americans?
