Part 1: You are asked to review your own clinical placements and answer all of the following:
1. Describe your own clinical development – where are you now and where do you aim to be upon graduation? What are your clinical learning goals for the remainder of the degree?
2. Analyse the factors which have impacted, both favourably and unfavourably, on your clinical learning
a. What areas of your clinical learning have been effective?
b. What areas of your clinical learning could be improved?
3. Make recommendations to improve clinical learning (with reference to published literature; i.e. back up your claims with published ideals)
4. Describe something significant from your clinical learning that has influenced your own clinical practice. It may have been something you have experienced, something that has surprised you, something that has benefited your learning or something that has worried you. Analyse why this has been important to you.
5. Reflecting on your experiences in clinical settings, describe what you have discovered about your own learning style. What are the conditions under which you learn the best? and the worst?”
6. Professional relationships are essential in the workplace. Describe how you have been influenced or affected by the professional relationships you have formed or observed.
You may use comments from your own clinical placement reports to support your ideas. Where you are commenting on clinical learning or making recommendations, it is expected that you support your arguments with published articles. Your own feelings and experiences may also be included, but you should support and compare your observations with published literature.
Part 2: this is an analysis of a part of professional practice as a paramedic. You are asked to examine one particular practice, intervention, guideline or activity which makes up a normal part of the day to day work of a paramedic. It may have been something you have seen or been involved with during a case. In your analysis of this activity you need to:
1. Explain in detail the practice, including the skills required for the practice
2. Describe the aim of the practice
3. Outline the guideline or policy dictating the practice
4. Analyse and evaluate the evidence to support the practice, including
a. The efficacy and risks associated with the practice
b. Complications or hazards associated with the practice
5. Make recommendations for changing the practice, or if no change, explain why practice is satisfactory
Important notes:
? You are asked to be analytical in your report and provide a high level of evaluation.
? You should refer to evidence where possible, including use of relevant published literature. Normal Harvard referencing rule will be required.
? In this assignment it is acceptable to use the first person.
? You may include material in an appendix if you wish to enhance your work (not included in the word count).
? You must maintain confidentiality. All references to paramedics, other students, other health professionals, locations, patients and shift call signs must be de-identified.
