This assignment is the first component of a three-part project that will continue over the remainder
of the course. The purpose of the overall project is to follow a systematic process to develop a
lesson plan for teaching the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy to a target population. In other
words, you are expected to use Bloom’s Taxonomy to develop a lesson plan that could be used to
teach Bloom’s Taxonomy to a specific target population.
Select a target population: The lesson plan may be developed for one of two specific adult
populations—instructors in a post-secondary institution or instructors in a corporate training
environment. You may choose either one of the two target populations based on your current or
planned work/life circumstances. Scenarios to support each target population are included as
Attachments A and B of this document.
Conduct a content analysis. In order to write learning objectives, you must conduct a content
analysis that is you must determine the knowledge statements or essential concepts needed by
your selected target population to apply Bloom’s Taxonomy of Cognitive Objectives to their
instructional situation. A content analysis may be conducted by following these steps:
Reread your Target Population scenario. Pay particular attention to the last two paragraphs of the
selected scenario that discuss your task assignment.
Review various sources related to Bloom’s Taxonomy for Cognitive Objectives listed in the course
guide, particularly “Writing instructional objectives: Beginning with the end in mind” that may be
found at the following URL: http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/FD/writingobjectives.pdf
Think carefully, critically, and comprehensively about the content of the topic “Applying Bloom’s
Taxonomy of Cognitive Objectives” and your selected target population.
Retrieve Attachment C of this document, “Content Analysis of Bloom’s Taxonomy of Cognitive
Objectives.” Using this template, ask yourself the question, “What is my major organizing concept
statement?” Place your response in the appropriate block of the template.
Ask yourself the question “What are my major concepts? Place your response in the appropriate
block of the template.
Ask yourself the questions “What do I want my students to learn about each major concept
(Applying Bloom’s Taxonomy of Cognitive Objectives)?” Using your responses, develop a set of
phrases or statements reflecting the major ideas to be learned by your selected target population.
(See example.) Place your response in the appropriate block of the template.
Convert the phrases or statements reflecting the major ideas to action statements. The action
statements are to include an action verb and a direct object. The action verb should be consistent
with the verbs identified in “Writing instructional objectives: Beginning with the end in mind” and be
