Introduction
The choice of supplier/contractor any project has a significant impact on the performance of the project. The client, together with their advisor(s), will need to consider a host of variables and issues to identify the criteria that need to be considered when selecting a supplier/contractor for their project. The most suitable supplier/contractor will be the one that would help deliver the project that meets the client/customer needs and priorities. The adopted framework for the selection of suppliers should also determine the key performance indicators (KPI) adopted by the client and consultants in providing the essential feedback to the supplier on performance.

Guide
1. Carry out a literature review and identify the criteria that are widely recognised by researchers as most valid in selecting a supplier or contractor for a particular project. The literature review should also investigate what KPIs used in the management of the suppliers and how they are linked to the selection criteria
2. Critically appraise the appropriateness of the criteria and KPIs you have identified in item 1 above to the work of your organisation/sector.
3. Select at least five projects where you have recently been involved with or projects which you can have access to their data. You will need to describe clearly the nature of the client business, nature of the project and its main characteristics, i.e. duration, value, etc. You should also identify the client priorities for each project.
4. Compare and contrast the criteria and process used to select the supplier or contractor in each of the above projects with what you have identified in items 1 and 2. You should identify any gaps in current practices and opportunities for improvement. You should also comment on how current practices impacted project performance in the selected projects.
5. Examine the effectiveness of the KPI adopted by the client in managing the supplier/contractor
