Part 1: Empowering Students to Solve Problems Using Mediation Techniques

Finally, think about how you could have used the mediation techniques demonstrated in the role-play shown in the media segment "The Mediation Process" to empower, rather than direct, the person whose problem you solved.
Part 2: Creating a Trusting Environment by Using Response Behaviors to Allow for Risk Taking
A trusting classroom environment is one in which students are comfortable enough to answer questions, take risks, and make mistakes. It is also a place that honors students� individual and cultural differences. For this assignment, you will explore how response behaviors support the development of classroom environments in which all students feel comfortable, honored, and respected. This type of environment is critical for today�s classrooms, which typically include students from diverse ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, language, and religious backgrounds as well as students with special needs.
Think about the ways that you create a trusting environment in your classroom, one in which students are comfortable enough to answer questions, be themselves, take risks, and make mistakes. How do you ensure that your learning environment is one in which students� individual and cultural differences are honored in a way that creates an atmosphere of trust?
Consider how the techniques you thought about above compare and contrast to the response behaviors that build trust presented in the �Response Behaviors� media segment.
