Instruction for Budget Narrative:
The budget narrative should answer questions the sponsor might raise. You will want to identify any large or suspiciously rounded budget numbers and explain them in your budget narrative. If you have too many rounded numbers the sponsor might think that you “picked the figure out of the air” rather than researched the costs and used actual costs. It would be better to say $5,643 than $6,000 in citing the cost of travel, for example and then, explain how you calculated that number. The only exception to rounding numbers is if your sponsor asks you to.
Any items included in the budget that are to be explained in the budget narrative need to be identified by reference numbers.
