– Individual case study of an organisation with which you are familiar. It can be your own organisation or another one. If it is not your own, it should be one with which you are very familiar. The purpose of this assignment is to analyse in depth the success or otherwise of a change effort ? past, present or future. If you choose a future change effort, it can be one that you think will happen or one that you think ought to happen. You will then need to design it in a way which gives it the best possible chance of succeeding. In all cases, it is necessary to draw upon lessons from theory. Students may also draw upon the case studies, though this is optional.

– The following is a suggested outline:
Background on the organisation: what it does, why it does it, what financial, human and technological resources it has at its disposal
The nature of the change programme that has been completed; is being carried out now; is being contemplated or which ought to be contemplated. This could explain historical background. For instance, was the organisation under-performing in one or more respects; was it losing good people; were competitors threatening its survival; or was the management not capable?
These two sections should be limited to the first 1,500 words. The remaining 2,000 words can then be applied to analysing the extent of the change and its success.
Was/is the change transformational? Did it need to be?
How do we assess the success or failure of the change process? Is it a matter of external outcomes such as KPI?s in service delivery, work quality, financial outcomes? Or are the internal outcomes such as improved morale, better skills and greater teamwork more important? Could the change have achieved more? What has been done to keep it going? What about the performance of the individuals involved, strengths and weaknesses?
