Use this scenario to examine the potential impact of a diagnosis of HIV / AIDS has on an individual and discuss the resources and interdisciplinary support services that are available for the individual and family.
Scenario:
You were feeling somewhat run-down this past semester. You can only describe vague symptoms, such as �not feeling like yourself� and �no energy�. You take the new FDA approved over-the-counter HIV test at home and it’s positive. You go to your doctor for follow-up.
She orders a battery of blood tests to see if something organic is the cause, and then asks you to come back to see her. She confirms that you that you are HIV positive. Shocked, you can�t believe this is true! You are not a part of any high risk group, and you have been completely faithful to your partner. Unfortunately, your partner has not shared his/her background of IV drug abuse with you.
1. Discuss the types of challenges that you should be prepared to face given your age, career status, gender, race, and ethnicity.
2. Include how American value, ethics and laws may impact your life both positively and negatively.
3. Discuss how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) may impact you including your ability to work at your job, which is being a labor & delivery/Nursery nurse.
4. Briefly discuss three (3) interdisciplinary health care providers and resources that are available to help you, in addition to the physician, e.g., nurse, social worker, nutritionist, psychologist, etc.
5. Follow correct APA style and format. Cite your references in the body of the narrative in correct APA format. Include a reference list.
