Let me know which question your going to do so that we could discuss whether or not more information is needed.
1) The object of this paper is to explore witchcraft in Renaissance theatre through historical co-texts on the subject. Select two to three of the texts from the “Witchcraft” folder under files on Canvas and use these sources to discuss the Renaissance view of witchcraft and, most importantly, how these sources help us to contextualize the supernatural and how they help us to understand the role of (and interpret the characters of) the weird sisters in Macbeth.
2) Research director Marianne Elliott’s 2009 production of Alls Well that Ends Well at the National Theater in London, UK. For this question, you must use at least one mass media resource such as podcasts, online newspaper theatre reviews, stills from the production, or video clips of the production in your discussion of the director’s approach to staging Alls Well that Ends Well. In addition, you must use at least one academic source such as a journal article or academic theatre review. You should pick one theme or a small group of related staging/production choices to focus on in your discussion of the 2009 production.
3) Locate three peer-reviewed journal articles or scholarly book chapters that take substantially different approaches to/interpretations of the character of Cleopatra from Antony and Cleopatra, Lady Macbeth from Macbeth or Helen from Alls Well that Ends Well and then analyze the quality of each argument, pointing out its adequacies, inadequacies, and limits, and making an assessment of each approach’s worth. For example, you could compare a Freudian, a Feminist and a thematic reading of Cleopatra. Do not merely summarize these sources, rather evaluate and respond to them.
4) Write an essay that identifies the thematic functions of the words “fate” (you may also want to include “weird” in your discussion) in Macbeth, OR “honour” in Antony and Cleopatra. Trace the instances of the chosen word through the whole play and consider its range of meanings and its overall significance to the play. You can use a printed concordance (e.g. Spevack’s The Harvard Concordance to Shakespeare), or an on-line concordance such as http://www.theplays.org/index.html.
