Playstation vs Xbox- 360 Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

We make decisions about products or services we purchase, places we go, and experiences we choose to try. In other words, we evaluate by drawing conclusions about something’s value, worthiness, or merit based on logical and appropriate standards or criteria. For your third writing assignment, please write an essay of about 800-1000 words in which you evaluate a product, place, performance, or other approved subject according to established criteria as explained in NFGW Chapter 12: Evaluations. Examples of evaluations are in Chapter 58 of your textbook.

This list may help you get started:
•Consumer items you might recommend or steer readers clear of
•Restaurants, stores, museums, amusement parks, or other places of interest to readers
•Movies, television shows, bands, plays, books, video games, concerts, websites, or other performances that are worth experiencing—or not

Final Exam: Evaluations
Notes
Sometimes we need to make decisions between two possibilities, and to choose the best option, we look for qualities or characteristics that are similar for both and for those that distinguish one choice from the other. Making an important purchase, for instance, invites us to look for similarities and differences between two or more products or services, places to visit, performances to attend, etc., according to a set of criteria. Generally speaking, the lead-in educates us (readers) about the topic of your evaluation; then, the thesis sentence identifies and forecasts the criteria used to make your decision. Sometimes a thesis sentence for an evaluation also forecasts the writer’s recommendation (see the second example below).
When evaluating one place, product, or performance, a brief outline might look like this:
P.F. Chang’s—Chinese restaurant
Thesis: For the best affordable Chinese food in San Antonio, I would recommend P.F. Chang’s in the Quarry Mall at I-37N and Basse Road. This restaurant offers large portions of food at a reasonable price, people-friendly surroundings, and excellent service.
I. Price and portions
a. Not expensive
i. Crispy honey chicken—$8.25
ii. More expensive dishes—duck–$14.00
b. Family size portions
i. One order could feed two or more people, depending on appetite
ii. Contrast with other restaurant’s portions and prices
II. Surroundings
a. Dim lighting—romantic setting
b. Outdoor dining
c. Bar
III. Service
a. Attend to patrons well
i. Customer-centered service
1. Personal experience example
2. Personal experience example
b. 15 minute wait to be seated on a weeknight
c. longer waits on weekends
d. reservations available
IV. Concluding paragraph—In the current economy, eating out is a rare treat for most people. Whether you’re taking a friend to a quiet dinner or giving your whole family a special time to be together away from home, you want to have the best experience for your hard-earned dollars. Given the quality of the food, surroundings, and service, please consider P.F. Chang’s at the Quarry. You won’t regret it.
A brief outline for an evaluative essay comparing two laptop computers may look like this:
I. Brief introduction with thesis sentence
Example Thesis: In choosing a laptop, I examined the qualities that most impacted my everyday computer use. Since I am not a gamer nor do I use my computer for watching video content, I considered customization, features, and price in making my decision and discovered that Hewlitt-Packard offered the better computer for the cost over Gateway.
II. Customization
A. Hewlitt-Packard (HP)
B. Gateway
III. Features
A. Processor speed
1.HP
2.Gateway
B. Screen
1.HP
a. Available sizes
b. Clarity
2.Gateway
a. Available sizes
b. Clarity
C. Drives and memory
1.HP
2.Gateway
D. Peripherals and ports
1.HP
2.Gateway
IV. Price
A. HP
1.What you get
2.What it costs
B. Gateway
1.What

What does it mean to be human Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

In the Syllabus you will have read the Course Description below:

“What does it mean to be human? The discipline of the humanities suggests we can answer this question by examining the cultural production — the art, architecture, music, literature, philosophy and religion — of different civilizations. By studying these cultural products, we discover how human beings understood themselves and their role in the universe at different moments in time.

Every culture has a world-view (or ideology) that allows its members to understand themselves as part of the world in which they live. Even though the cultural production of a society does reflect the dominant ideas and values of the time, we do not assume that those ideas or values are true or false. Instead, in this course, we examine how cultural products reinforce (or undermine) the dominant world view of a particular society at a particular point in time. We also examine how cultural products act as catalysts for change.”

The project description is also given in the Syllabus, as follows:

Project (20%): Real or Virtual Museum/Cathedral Visit

You will visit any museum or cathedral in your area (or do an online virtual tour) and write a 1,000—1,500 word paper. The paper should be double-spaced, with a title and header page, to include photographs if possible and references in the MLA format.

Option 1

For the museum visit, you will write about a specific item in the museum (painting, sculpture, artifact, manuscript) of your choosing. Place the item within the context of one of the periods discussed in the text or in one of our conferences and explain how it relates to its particular time frame/period. Describe the object. What is the thematic content? What broad assumptions about human nature does it make? Does the object reinforce the dominant values of the time or undermine them? You are encouraged to do additional research, although you must cite your sources in the MLA format.

For the cathedral visit, you may write about a specific item in the cathedral or about its architectural style in general. Place the item or the cathedral as a whole within its historical context. What ideas and values does the cathedral evoke? How is the cathedral similar or different to other cathedrals built around the same time? You are encouraged to use additional research, although you must cite your sources in the MLA format.

Option 2

If you do not or cannot visit a real museum or cathedral, you may do an online tour of a museum or cathedral. In the Course Content section you will find links to an assortment of virtual tours of famous museums and cathedrals where you might find something of interest to you. There are some additional links also in the Webliography. Proceed as for the live visit, above.

Option 3

I understand also that some of you have limited options for accessing such sites and perhaps not enough time to examine materials carefully enough to come up with a detailed essay. So, I am proposing a third option, which requires a bit more creativity on your part. Using the resources you have available (texts, internet, etc), imagine that you are an extra-terrestrial explorer, on a scouting mission to determine the status of the planet Earth and its inhabitants. You have no previous experience of what a human being is and are prohibited by your orders from making direct contact with the living population. What can you determine from your observations of the planet about the nature of humankind? Give examples from aspects of culture that we have been discussing in the course, such as art, architecture, music, writing, etc, and submit an evaluation to your superior with your analysis.

Make sure you read the descriptions carefully and include in your essay all the main criteria: description, historical context, thematic content, relevance to human values at the time of construction, and insight provided to human nature as a whole.

The paper should be double-spaced and include relevant references, bibliography and photographic evidence if possible.
