The Assignment is at the same time very simple to state and very difficult to execute Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

It is designed to allow you to use all the tools of strategy and analysis that you have learned to this point to develop a “high level strategy” statement to solve a real business problem. Your role in this simulation exercise will be to take on the position of a senior management group in a company that is involved in a major transformation of its business. You will be defining the goals and the position of the company as it moves forward. Your presentation of your analysis should be structured as a report/presentation of the current situation, your initial strategy for implementation of “the deal”, your projections for where you see the company ten years from now. Underlying every piece of your presentation must be the set of answers to that annoying question, “WHY?”
The situation I want you to analyze and for which you will develop a strategy for success is this very real problem:
After a number of years of ownership and as part of its own restructuring in order to emerge from the financial crisis, General Motors Corporation decide to divest itself of the Swedish carmaker SAAB. SAAB is a company with an interesting history, grounded in the aircraft industry. However, SAAB fell on some tough years recently and as a component of GM had been struggling. GM felt it had no choice but to either sell SAAB or barring a successful divestiture, close it down.
Several companies were interested in acquiring SAAB but one by one the deals fell through, for a variety of reasons. GM had actually initiated shutdown of the division. However, in recent months, one deal that had been in the works caught new life and just a few weeks ago, GM successfully sold SAAB to Spyker Cars, a small Dutch company, makers of some fantastic and exotic sports cars, a real niche manufacturer if there ever was one. Now Spyker has the task of profitably reviving and continuing the SAAB brand.
Your task is this:
You are a senior management team assembled from the Spyker and SAAB management groups. Your task is to present to your senior management colleagues, investors, governments, unions, etc. your plan for “The Way Forward”. What will SAAB/Spyker do, what will it be, what will its’ products look like, who will it sell to? Will you be large or small? Will you occupy your current niche or carve out a mass market? Can you make money? Your assignment is to present answers to this question at an overview level so that those not intimately involved in the details can understand the direction you wish the new company to follow.

Leonardo da Vinci & Van Gogh Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Objective: To help students continue practicing how to critically analyze, discuss, and write about works of art, using research material and observations.
Materials: Textbook, computer, outside research: at least 5 total sources (2 must be print) not including the textbook.

Assignment Description: Students will choose 2 specific artists to focus their project on, and write about 3 specific works of art from each artist. (6 total works of art researched & discussed.) Each written section must contain researched information, properly cited both in-text and in the works cited page. The discussion of each work of art must apply terms from the entire semester, including a “read” of the meaning of the artwork, as well as a discussion of the materials and methods used to create the artwork.

PROJECT DETAILS

2.) Then you will introduce your first chosen artist.
This portion must include an image of the artist, with the source citation.
The written portion must consist of at least 200 words of content (not including labels, quotations, etc.), and must include research material all properly cited.
The writing should focus on the artist and what they are known for:
Discuss any important history or background information you learned in your research that informs the style, technique, content, etc. of the artist’s work.
What kinds of styles, techniques, media, and content is the artist most well-known for working with? This information can be from research or your own observations of the artist’s work.

3.) You will then discuss three (3) works of art by the first chosen artist.
Each of these 3 portions must include an image of the artwork, all properly cited.
Each of these 3 portions must include a “header” with the title, date, and medium.
Each of the 3 written sections in this portion must consist of at least 450 words of content (not including labels, quotations, etc.), and must include research material all properly cited.

Each of the 3 writings should focus on 1 specific chosen work of art by the artist.
“Read” the image by applying terms from Chapters #1-4 (especially the Elements of Art and Principles of Design) – how do terms like line, color, balance, proportion, etc. help a viewer to understand the content of the artwork?
What is the content of the artwork? What is this piece about? Along with your “read” of the piece, discuss any important history or background information you learned while researching that informs what this piece is about:
Does it relate to a personal event in the artist’s life?
Does it relate to a historical event?
Does it relate to a specific culture or a specific audience?
Discuss the medium of the artwork (what is it made out of?) and its creation. Use information from your research and apply information and terms you learned from Chapters #5-12 concerning the creation of artwork in various media.
Does the medium of the piece enhance the artwork? Would it have a similar impact if it were created in a different medium?
Does the medium of the piece inform the artwork? Was the artist experimenting with materials, defying conventions, or using more traditional methods?
Compare/contrast the artwork to one of the images provided in Study Guides #6-12.
Compare/contrast how each artwork uses the medium it was created in to enhance in different or similar ways. Did the artists use similar techniques?

4.) You will then repeat these steps with the second chosen artist – discuss the artist using the information listed above in Step #2, using at least 200 words.

5.) And then repeat these steps with the 3 works of art from the second chosen artist – discuss the 3 artworks using the information listed above in Step #3, using at least 450 words for each artwork.

TOTAL WRITING TALLY
At least 200 words on Artist #1
At least 450 words on Artwork #1
At least 450 words on Artwork #2
At least 450 words on Artwork #3
At least 200 words on Artist #2
At least 450 words on Artwork #4
At least 450 words on Artwork #5
At least 450 words on Artwork #6

6.) Finally, you will include a works cited page – citing all of the images and information used in the project.
Every image should have a proper citation – image of artist #1 & 2, image of artwork #1-6 – with 8 total image citations.
Researched information used in each of the 8 written sections (intro to artist #1 & 2, discussions of artwork #1-6) must be properly cited here.
The information research citations should include at least 5 total sources with at least 2 print sources out of those 5. (Does not include textbook.)
Information from one source may be used in more than one written section.

RESEARCH
As this is a “research project,” the most important part of the project will be the researched information you include in your discussions. Failure to include research in all 8 written portions, failure to properly cite either in-text or in the works cited page, or failure to include sufficient research and/or sources will result in an automatic deduction of 100 points, or 50% of the total grade of this project and an automatic loss of 10% of your final overall course grade.
Therefore, it is imperative that students follow the instructions carefully to ensure that all research has been handled properly in this project.

1.) Students must include information from at least 5 total “academic” sources in their projects. From these 5 total sources, at least 2 must be print sources.
“Academic” sources means that personal blogs, Wikipedia, dictionary.com, reference.com, etc. and any encyclopedias are not included. Reasons include: lack of peer review, lack of academic reliability, and lack of in-depth information.
Print sources can include articles from magazines, journals, and of course books. Try to choose artists that have at least one book written about them available at a local library.

While students may use the textbook as a resource in addition to the 5 required sources, the textbook does not count as one of the 5 sources.

2.) Information used in the project discussions must enhance the discussion of the artwork, and not just include basic information like title, medium, and date.
Researched information on the artist should include:
biographical information including any important events that might have influenced the work of the artist
information on what materials and methods the artist was known for using
what kind of content the artist was known for addressing
any other important and/or interesting information on the artist

Researched information on the artworks should include:
information on its creation (discussing methods & materials)
any influencing factors or events (does it reflect an event in the life of the artist, or perhaps a world event like a war?)
critical analysis and reviews of the artwork
Any information that is included in each written section on the artists or artworks that does not come from your own thoughts and observations must be cited with the source where you found this information.

3.) All research must be properly cited, both in-text and in the works cited page.
In-text citations are found within the written portions of the project.
Whenever you use information that does not come from your own observations, and that came from one of your sources, you must cite this source immediately after the statement.
In-text citations are used both when you are summing up information from a source in your own words, and when you are directly quoting something from that source.
In-text citations can be written out: “According to Gardner’s Art Through the Ages, Michelangelo was best known for…” ; or they can be included at the end of a statement in parentheses/brackets: “Michelangelo was best known for… (Art Through the Ages, p.354).”
The works cited page is a separate page at the end of your project that includes all of the citations for the sources used in the research of the project.
The works cited pages should include full MLA citations for both print sources and web sources (see the MLA Style Guide folder on ANGEL for more information).
Print citations should include: Author, Title of Article and/or Title of Publication/Book, City of Publication, Publisher, Year, Page Range, and Medium of Publication.
Fichner-Rathus, Lois. Understanding Art, 10th Edition. Boston: Wadsworth / Cengage Learning, 2013. Print.
Web citations should include: Author, Title of Article, Title of Website, Date of Publication, Web, Date of Access, and .
Lubow, Arthur. “Bernini’s Genius.” Smithsonian Magazine. Oct. 2008. Web. 15 Oct. 2012. .
DO NOT JUST LIST LINKS. Web citations that are given only as a list of URL links will result in the “improper citation” automatic deduction of 100 points.

4.) All images must also have proper citations outside of the main 5 required sources.
Your 2 artist images, and your 6 artwork images must all also have a proper citation showing where you found the image.
Image sources can all be web sources, and it is recommended that students use EasyBib.com to create the citations for the image sources.
Make sure you cite the website the image came from (usually ending in .html, .bml, .php), and not the URL of the image itself (usually ending in .jpg, .png, .gif)
