Latin History Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Modern Latin America
WO/HI 214 01 and H1 Fall 2012 T Th 1pm

First Draft due Tuesday 4 December
Final Version due Thursday 13 December

You will write a term or research paper (8 15 pages) on a topic of your choice, which has been approved by the professor.

Be sure to provide a broad conclusion and then support it with specific examples. You are welcome to use material from Chasteen, Blood and Fire, and Wood and Chasteen. Major Problems. The essay can focus on anything from the course and when appropriate, address both rhetoric and reality, or words/ ideas and actions/events.

Your thesis should be clear and explicit and can be simple and elegant, but should not be simplistic. The devil is in the details, as the saying goes, or as architect Mies van der Rohe liked to say “God is in the details.” Choose your terms carefully and explain them whenever necessary, and to again quote Mies “less is more.” Choose a few things to say and explain well. DO NOT JUST TELL A STORY. MAKE AN ARGUMENT.

You are expected to use numerous sources, but this will vary depending on the question and topic.

You will be evaluated on clarity of argument and use and choice of evidence. This is a relatively substantial paper, so the use of sources will be very important. Be sure that the arguments and evidence support one another. Arguments require that all ideas are logically coherent and are supported with evidence. Without evidence you are only expressing opinions, which cannot be properly evaluated. Without logic and coherence, you are simply rambling. Any argument will be considered, as long it is coherent and supported by specific historical evidence.
Deal with one topic per paragraph, use topic sentences and the active voice. See below for guidance:

Employers needing to be more open minded about people with tattoos Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Length: 1500-2000 words (not including Works Cited) in MLA format,12-point font,
double-spaced
Peer Review Drafts Due: Wed, Nov 28 (2 hard copies in class)
Final Draft Due: Wed, Dec 5 by class start time in Turnitin drop box on ANGEL
(.doc/.docx) *Save and submit as LastnameWA3.docx or .doc
Source requirement: Three (3) scholarly and four (4) popular sources (7 sources total)
due in the annotated bibliography stage. Three (3) scholarly and two (2) popular
sources in final draft. In other words, you may use fewer sources in your final draft, but
you must retain the scholarly sources or choose other ones if you find that your original
ones are not suitable.
You must include a “Works Cited” page and use correct MLA format for in-text
(parenthetical) citations.
In this assignment, write an essay that examines an issue of importance within your
academic discipline. You will be graded on your ability to present an informed,
effective argument (which usually incites a call to action) that demonstrates your
understanding of the subject, displays your research into its issues, effectively uses
source material (in summary, paraphrase, and cogent quotations), and reaches logical,
substantiated conclusions based on well organized and subordinated claims.
At least five of these sources must be cited in the final draft of your Academic Essay.
Your drafts are expected to contain a cogent, well-formed argument based on that
preliminary work and to be presented in the MLA style, which is a required, graded
element of this assignment.
This is your chance to compose your own original work and to make a scholarly
contribution to your academic field, whatever that may be. You do not need to
introduce a totally original argument, but you do need to compile sources and reason
through a contemporary topic of interest to your field and persuasively make an
argument and consider the possible counterarguments. Use one of the organizational
structures we talked about in class: Aristotelian, Rogerian, or Toulmin methods.

Application of Basic Economics Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

12 Times New Roman. Turabian citation. Double Spaced. There are no required sources to be used and there is no maximum or minimum sources to be used. My Professor is a free market economist and a Christian.

Here are the topics we covered and books we were assigned:

– Basic Economics; Sowell, Thomas.
– Towards a Free Society; Wolfram, Gary.
– The Law; Frederic Bastiat Available free from FEE.org.
– Economics in One Lesson; Hazlitt, Henry. Available free from FEE.org.
– Money, Greed, and God: Jay Richards

– Intro to Econ, Key Concepts, Economic Thinking
– Prices, Costs, Supply and Demand
– Marginal Benefit and Cost
– Property, Exchange, Profits
– Labor, and Wages
– Monopoly, Government and Business, Specialization
– Political Economic Philosophy, Socialism, Role of Government
– Public Goods, Taxes
– Public Choice
– Keynesian Theory, Post Keynes
– Money, Inflation
– GDP, Trade
– Trade Barriers
– Trade Balance, Christianity and Economics

Here are the Instructions:

Applied Economics Paper Guidelines

Length: 5-8 pages.
The maximum limit of eight pages means just that, a maximum limit. Eight pages should give you enough space to show me that you can manipulate several of the economic ideas from class. Extenuating circumstances may obtain you permission to exceed 8 pages, but talk to me first.
Five pages is the shortest I recommend that your paper be, but if you feel you have a good product in fewer pages, do not pad it to five. I will not be subtracting points for short papers, but make sure you cover enough ground in a thorough fashion.

In a Nutshell:
Pick an everyday topic and shed some light on / analyze it using economic methods and principles. Padding will not score you points. I’m looking for clear writing that convinces me you know how to apply several economic topics from class.

Your topic:
You can pick virtually any topic and analyze it from an economic perspective, but I would recommend that you choose a real-life situation of some sort. Feel free to develop and choose your own topic, but you will probably want to run it by me first. The chosen topic should be one that allows you to apply several principles or economic tools you have learned about in class. Writing about an issue that has been well-discussed by easily-accessible economic/policy writers will make it more difficult to earn an exceptional score.

Grading:
Your paper will be graded primarily on economic tools/principles utilized and economic execution, though topic selection and writing quality does play into the grading process.
Execution is the most important of these and includes not only your writing but also (primarily) the correct usage of economic tools and whether you missed (or didn’t apply) one or more necessary economic concepts that should have been used given your topic. I will not expect you to include anything that hasn’t either been discussed in class or included in the reading. The paper should be written in such a way as to cause me to believe, to convince me, that you have a workable understanding of the material that we have covered in class and in the readings. You are not restricted to using only those economic concepts covered in class, but you should be sure to use outside ideas accurately. Such a strategy could work out very well for you, but is also somewhat risky (feel free to talk to me).
The topic itself is only considered for your grade if you pick an extremely limited and narrow (shallow) topic or application of a topic, in which case the top end of your grade may be limited. Talk to me with specific topic ideas if you are concerned about this.

Finally:
Remember that this is not a research paper. Of course I want you to cite your sources, but don’t worry about building (or padding) a bibliography.
