Epidemiology -Qualitative Assignment (Binge drinking) Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Epidemiology and Research Methodology

((((Qualitative Assignment)))

topics:

Binge drinking

Develop a research question and aim, selecting an appropriate qualitative research methodology to address it. Then design a research strategy, citing appropriate research methodology literature, to provide clear explanation and rationale for the approach and methods. This should not be a full research proposal but should cover the following issues, explaining the techniques used, why they have been selected and how you will use / operationalise them:

 Sampling (incl. sample size)
 Data collection
 Data analysis
 Verification

FORMATTING GUIDELINES

 Maximum of 2000 words
 Use Arial 12 font
 Use 1.5 or double spacing
Print only on one side of the page (single-side printing)
You must complete and attach the Assignment Declaration Form with your assignment

here are some questions were asked by students and Tutor answered them:-
its important to look at them to exactly understand what my tutor demands.

Do I need to produce a literature review?
You need to present a brief introduction to the essay, outlining the scope / tack of the essay. You should then develop a clear rationale for your choice of qualitative design / approach. i.e. you should briefly evaluate what the literature tells us about this problem and qualitative research might better inform us. This should be succinct and based on a brief search of existing qualitative studies in the area you’ve chosen to focus on. It is essential that you read published qualitative studies to be able to do this. You also need to be familiar and reasonably comfortable with the textbook literature. Unless you already have good knowledge, understanding and experience of qualitative research, you should not attempt to start the assessment based purely on attending lectures. So you don’t need to produce a full literature review, but a paragraph or two contextualising the research and forming a rationale for qualitative research.

Should I be producing a research proposal?
You are not being asked to write a full research proposal but to focus on the qualitative methodology and the methods you would use. In other words, you should not be producing a comprehensive literature review, a timeline or Gantt Chart, appendices, of discussing ethical approval issues. You should focus the essay squarely on the items listed in the question: developing a qualitative research question and aim (based on a methodological approach), then discussing the methods of sampling, data collection, data analysis, verification you would use. This means, for example, defining and explaining the sampling method and how you would use it. Each method needs to be defined, explained, rationalised and applied. The test is of your understanding and application, so this should not merely be descriptive (of each method), but an explanatory analysis. The essay is a test of your knowledge and understanding of the qualitative paradigm and of your ability to operationalise a methodology based on an example.

How should I develop a research question?
Firstly you need to read other studies to establish how research questions are written. All research questions have a methodological purpose. In qualitative research they tend to be inductive or exploratory. The goal is subjective (or intersubjective), not objective. It is about producing rich accounts rather than generalised outcomes. The question needs to reflect this philosophical orientation. This does not mean producing a very broad question. On the contrary, it requires focus and faithfulness to a methodology. E.g. a Grounded Theory methodology may have a different goal to an Ethnographic or a Phenomenological methodology. You will need to look at published studies and textbook examples to make better sense of this.

Is a mixed methods approach appropriate?
This would involve quantitative methods, so, no, not for this assignment; this is an essay about qualitative research.
How should I be approaching this essay?
Firstly, it is essential that you feel you have a grasp of what qualitative research is aiming to do. To do this, read the introductions to a number of qualitative research textbooks. Check out definitions and explanations through the various qualitative research online databases. Then delve deeper into a particular approach or methodology. Maybe look at some dissertations available via the UWE Library. Qualitative research tends not to be outcomes focused in the sense of measuring prevalence, incidence, frequencies, comparative differences, likelihood, effectiveness, impact, etc. If you are coming up with a research question or goal along these lines, you should think again and read about how to construct a qualitative research question. In order to prepare the ground for the essay, it is recommended that you search the published journal literature for qualitative research for your chosen topic; this way, you can establish how others have focused their studies and establish a brief rationale for your design – e.g. ‘research evidence suggests that a phenomenological approach would provide insight into the meanings ‘this group’ attaches to their behaviour …’ You need to create a robust rationale for the research design. You should avoid focusing initially on a large general population – qualitative studies are not seeking generalisability and representativeness; rather they seek depth, subjective meanings and cultural relevance. So think carefully about the sample population and why it is the focus. Qualitative research tends to be focused and small scale so you could focus in on a particular subculture, shared experience, case, and this needs to be based on a sound rationale. Try to avoid thinking about numbers and outcomes in the quantitative sense.

Foundation of a Compensation Strategy Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The most effective compensation strategy is one that develops a clear link between the following components:

Job Description (i.e., work that an employee is expected to perform).
Performance Evaluation (i.e., work that the employee has performed).
External Salary Survey and Internal Salary Comparison (i.e., pay provided to each employee).

Examine the interrelationship between these three components by describing the purpose of each component and how it affects the others. Then explain how all three components would be used to determine the compensation for an employee. Your examination should include a salary evaluation for a position you are familiar with (Administrative Assistant, Human Resource Manager, Maintenance Worker, etc).

The salary evaluation should give results for each of the three components and detail how pay is finally determined for this position based on the three components.

Example of the salary evaluation portion of your analysis:

Purchasing Manager.

Primary functions from the Job Description: To plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of buyers, purchasing officers, and related workers involved in purchasing materials, products and services.
Organizational performance evaluation system:

Outstanding 6% Increase
Exceeds expectations 4% Increase
Meets expectations 2% Increase
Does not meet expectations No Increase
External Salary Survey: (salary survey, which you can typically obtain online) Monthly salary range at $4,300 – $5,200.

Internal Salary Comparison: (the relationship of this position to similar positions in your organization) Position is similar to Accounting Manager, and should be paid within the same monthly salary range of $4,400 – $4,900.

Eight year career plan Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Your paper should be a minimum of 2,000 words. It should be single-spaced with a double space between paragraphs, and Parts 1, 2 and 3 should be clearly labeled. In your paper, all information from other sources (even ideas) must be attributed, and exact quotes must be both attributed and in quotation marks. (Unattributed information is considered plagiarism, and will result in a failing grade for this paper.)

RESEARCH PAPER TOPIC: EIGHT-YEAR CAREER PLAN
Choose a dream job for yourself in the media. If you don’t already know your dream job, select one from the “Industry” section of one of the chapters of the Rodman textbook, or pick one from an Internet search for mass communication careers. Your chosen job must be related to the mass media or mass communications field.

NOTE: If you can’t imagine a career in mass communications for yourself, then do this exercise as if you were hired to be a consultant for a client who wanted your advice (since you now have expertise in the mass communication industry) about a career in mass communications.

PART 1:

Create a year-by-year timeline, starting with 2013, describing in detail what you will do to work toward your goal. Each year should be at least one paragraph long. As a guide for what to include, use the suggestions in the “Breaking into a Media Career” box in the “online boxes” page of the Rodman Web site (link given below), which consist of:

extracurricular activities
coursework
internships
off-campus work
networking
Additional items you may to include: creating (and updating) your resume, creating (and updating) your portfolio, performing informational interviews, joining professional organizations (including student affiliates), attending professional conferences and trade shows, attending career day activities, and joining (and updating) professional online networking groups like LinkedIn.

Here’s the link: https://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0073511951/student_view0/online_boxes.html
“Breaking into a Media Career” is under Ch. 1, 4th item down.

You should include other outside reading and Web research to gather ideas.

Use specifics. For example, don’t simply say, “In fall 2013, I will transfer to a four-year university.” Instead, name two or three potential universities, include the date you will turn your application in, tell what your will be majoring in, what classes you plan to take, etc. (For help finding out requirements and classes available at various California transfer universities, a helpful resource is https://www.assist.org)

Don’t simply say, “In 2014, I will get an internship.” Instead, name two or three specific employers or organizations where you will apply for internships, how you found out about the internships, and describe the process you will need to go through to get the internship. (There is a lot of internship information on the web.)

Remember that careers in mass communication are competitive, and best prepared candidates will be more successful.

PART 2:

Discuss ethical issues (giving examples) that might come up which are inherent in the career you have chosen, using concepts from Rodman, chapter 15. Include:

conflicting loyalties (duty to personal conscience, duty to one’s organization or firm, duty to one’s profession or art, duty to society),
conflicts of interest
accountability
PART 3:

Include a bibliography, in MLA or APA style, of the sources you used for your research. You should have at least six sources, including Rodman. The Web site: https://www.citationmachine.net can help you with the MLA format.

NOTES ON RESEARCH. This essay will require you to do a lot of research, which you can do on the Internet, using search tools and library databases (such as EbscoHost and Infotrac), and by interviewing people. Sources that might be helpful include:

University and internship-related sites
The Web sites used during the Internet Search Project (especially what you learned about using the library databases such as Ebscohost, Infotrac, Proquest and LexisNexis for research)
The Web sites listed in the Industry Web Excursion section at the end of each chapter of the Rodman text
The Web site https://www.assist.org, which has information on classes that are required for majors at public universities in California
The optional class book “Career Media Guide,” especially the chapters “Preparing for a Career in Media,” “Getting Started in Your Search,” “Succeeding Once You’re In (Your Internship or First Job,” and “Seize Your Entrepreneurial Spirit.” There are copies of this book on reserve in the library.
