The story of a film is WHAT the film is about and the plot is HOW it all happened Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The story of a film is WHAT the film is about and the plot is HOW it all happened. The text uses a good example of the story being like a city and the pot being the streets within the city that get you where you are going. I just recently watched the movie Brave with my kids.

The story is about a young girl who is resisting an arranged marriage by her parents and she makes a wish that causes trouble for her family and they all learn a valuable lesson in the end.

The plot of Brave is that the young Scottish Princess is resisting an arranged marriage to a Scottish Prince by her parents, mainly her mother. She tries everything to change the plans for her to marry, but nothing works. She then finds an old witch who gives her a spell that will “change” her mother. Although she just wanted her mother’s ideas to change she had no idea that the spell would ACTUALLY turn her mother into a bear. When her mother turns into a bear, catastrophe happens and the men of the castle (not knowing the bear is actually the queen) try to kill her. The princess has to protect her mother, the bear, and so she takes her to the woods and stays with her. While out there she finds the old witch and asks her how to reverse the spell. The witch tells the princess that she must say these words “Fate be changed, look inside. Mend the bond torn by pride.”
At that point, the meaning of the little saying made the princess realize that she had to mend the broken relationship between her and her mother before the spell could be broken. The catch was, though, that she only had until the 2nd sunrise to break the spell or else it would be permanent and her mother would be a bear forever. In the end, the princess is able to break the spell by changing inside of her, what caused their relationship to fall apart in the first place. Right at the 2nd sunrise her mother becomes human again and they all live happily ever after.

The events in this film are in chronological order. The writer told this story in chronological order, I believe, because it was the best way to get the point across that the story was trying to make.
Discussion 1 peer 2

In a film, the story is the overarching theme of what happens in the movie and plot is the much more descriptor point of how the events happen. Take, for instance, on of my favorite films: Donnie Darko; It is the story of a troubled young man who discovers his world is coming to an end and his eventual understanding of what he needs to do to save it. The plot of Donnie Darko is much more lengthy: Donnie Starts getting visits form a six foot tall Bunny named Frank who informs him that the world is going to end in 28 days, Donnie start learning about tangent universes and time travel etc. When describing plot you are describing every major moment in the movie. Donnie Darko is semi-linear with a few scenes of both the future and the past woven in. Richard Kelly, the writer and director, told it using this time frame in order to convey the meaning of the theories of time travel he is trying to incorporate. Foreshadowing is heavily used in this film, even the whole of one of the main characters is a huge foreshadowing tool. Donnie also develops as a character moving forward, becoming a man willing to make great sacrifices to save the ones he loves. Both character development and foreshadowing are used differently depending on the chronological order of the movie. In a non-linear movie, foreshadowing can be much more direct because events from the future can play out before the events leading up to them. Linear foreshadowing is often more subtle and the viewer may not see the significance until after a full viewing.
