1. This is a part team / part individual assignment. Each student must submit their own work (Individual analysis) in addition to deliverables to be created by the team (Maps and Goals). Submit via Blackboard.
2. TEAM: Create lists of Goals that you and your team establish for your project, and De?ne a Set of Metrics to re?ect either LCA and/or Hard to Measure Goals and Measurable Goals of your venture:
– Is there value in conducting LCA for your team project? (Note: LCA is used to examine a material product, process, or system). If so, using the frameworks presented in the readings, provide detail in regard to what you might measure along the various stages of LCA. You need not provide exact measurements (numbers, etc.), simply state “what” you would measure, i.e. if you were manufacturing sustainable furniture, some of the many things you could measure, let’s say for your line of coffee tables, and might include: percentage of sustainable harvested wood per table, kilowatt hours of non-renewable energy for assembly per table, pounds of compostable packaging per table (and non-compostable), etc. In some ways this exercise is similar to Assignment 1. Show your LCA in some kind of mapped format (use the reading as reference for this).
– If LCA does not apply to your team project (as I believe it does not apply to most), consider other ways to design metrics to track impact for your team project. What indicators might you focus on? Create a list of Goals that are “harder to measure”, and a list of “Measureable Goals”. Please be speci?c – do not simply list “energy use” or “waste”, think about how such large categories might be measured within your project’s potential audience activities, i.e. for an advocacy project, you might measure: number of learning modules downloaded from your website, number of sign-ups for your newsletter, number of people signing a petition, or showing up at an event, etc. Also list harder to measure metrics: i.e. speci?c shifts in perspective or understanding, creating awareness, educating, shifting market demand, etc.
3. TEAM: Create an Audience Activities Map for your team project, based on examples.
4. INDIVIDUAL: Describe the metrics – hard to measure goals and measureable goals of your team project, and especially include an analysis of how those metrics which are harder to de?ne (less practical, and dif?cult to quantify) relate to other measureable goals, and why. How do these ways of de?ning value created by your venture help support the big idea, or high-level “resonant goal” at the center of your audience activities map? In some ways this might relate to the idea of emergence, but don’t get hung up on this idea. Reference your maps in the analysis.
assignment 4
Cite an example of an advertisement or meme that YOU consider to be successful in capturing your attention – for any reason – this does not need to relate to your team project or sustainable design (if it does, that’s great, too). Provide a link or insert an image. This might be a TV or online video commercial, a print ad, a viral meme, a slogan, billboard, etc.
