A competency based critical review of leadership and management in my work organisation.

In the previous assignment, we needed to set up a company to sell a format DVD about managing cultural difference in the same working environment. And we needed to record a 10mins video and do a presentation. And I did the marketing part with another teammate in the team.This assignment likes a reflective essay.The feedback of the previous assignment from my group mates is that I don’t have enough conversation with group mates, however, I am friendly, helpful,easy to work with, good at writing and patient. And in this assignment, we need to write a sociogram, and it should be related to the video in the meeting (we recorded videos in almost every meeting about the previous project); for example, I raised a problem in the meeting and everyone considered about it.

The work organisation assignment has enabled you to experience or observe the leading and managing of people at first hand. You have produced something through people in a simulated work organisation. The main purpose of the individual assignment is to give you the opportunity to observe, analyse and evaluate how specific leadership and management competences are demonstrated within the work organisation and recommend behavioural changes that could be introduced to improve working effectiveness. You are also asked to consider the portability of specific behaviours between different organisational or national cultures. (N.B. it is not intended that this assignment is focussed on your management or leadership but any demonstration of management and leadership behaviours, including your own, however underdeveloped.)

Write an assignment entitled "A competency based critical review of leadership and management in my work organisation."

To complete this task write responses to the following 3 questions:
1) What specifically have you observed and learnt from the experience focussing on one management competence?
Use the various sources of observational data located in your appendix i.e. personal journal, video transcripts, peer feedback, questionnaire data and tutor feedback, with an appropriate range of management concepts from your study of the subject to interpret your experience.
It may help to think of this section like the finding and conclusion of a report
(Suggested length 1000 words)
2) Evaluate how what you have learnt concerning best practice of the competence should inform and change the practice of the competence for the future.
This should be undertaken by considering the specific work organisation which you participated in or observed.
(Suggested length 700 words)

3) Identify and explain whether the best practice of the competence discussed in question 2 could be transferred into an employment situation when operating in a work organisation in your own national culture. If you are a UK based student, consider the transfer of the competence into a work organisation with which you are familiar.

It is a requirement to submit 1 Personal Journal to your tutor as indicated in the semester plan. The Journal will be signed and commented on by the tutor. Failure to submit will undermine your individual course work since feedback will not inform your future personal journals.
It is requirement that the work organisation produces a poster display as indicated in the semester plan for the tutor showing:
1. What the group has achieved,
2. What remains to be done,
3. How the group has made decisions,
4. What problems the group have experienced or anticipate
5. How the group have delegated the tasks.
Hand-in date and instructions

• Assignments must be submitted via moodle.
• The word limit is 2000 words and the word count must be printed on the assignment.
• An executive summary, introduction or conclusion is not required just answer the questions 1-3.
• Assignments must be word-processed in 12 point with one and a half spacing, in Arial type face.
• All pages must be numbered
• The assignment must be presented with an assignment statement of originality that is signed, have a front cover showing the programme title, module number and name, title of the assignment, name of the person submitting the work, student number and submission date.
• Margins must be as follows: Top: 1 inch, Bottom: 1 inch (2.5 cm), Left: 1.25 inches, Right: 1.25 inches (3.2 cm)
The specified page count refers to the main body of the assignment and does not include front cover, mark/feedback sheet, title page, references, bibliography or appendices.

Assignment length
The length of an assignment is limited by a set number of words to contribute towards the development of writing skills and to ensure all work is assessed equitably. We therefore require you to complete your assignments within the number of pages specified in the assignment brief.
You will need to think carefully about how best to explain your case within the permitted number of pages using, for example, an appropriate mix of text, drawings, diagrams and tables, supplemented by information contained in appendices.
Please also remember that a report can be enhanced or damaged through layout, for example, placing all tables and drawings in appendices can hamper the flow of discussion. Decisions therefore need to be made about the most appropriate place to use tables etc, to support your case.

Appendices themselves will not be marked. However, inappropriate use of appendices will be taken into consideration when awarding the final mark.

Briefing the main problems of Jinnikins Jeans and identify them (for example):
The brothers make all the decisions for the company whether big or small decisions and it spends a long time to make decisions.
The senior production staff had offered to assist to solve out the computer systems problems, but the brothers preferred to keep using the project team system, and the problems cannot be solved.
The staffs do not like to use the computerised centralised stock ordering/dispatch systems, and they prefer to use their own methods.

Jinnikins Jeans mainly sells their products through departmental stores in major shopping centres and some large leisure outlet. It invested heavily in a purpose-built, and the overall gross turnover sharply decreased by 31%. The firm closed all the factories in the UK, and relocated its garment manufacturing to other countries to increase profit margins. However, the problems came out from the factories in overseas. There is lack of communication between the departments in the company.

Main body:
Show the research about the advantages of the communication between the employer and the employees in the business.

Conclusion:

Recommendation:
The firm should encourage Etty to organise Works Council for the employees, and it might increase the communication between the departments. The brothers also can get the feedback about the work from the employees, and improve the relationship.
The brothers should accredit the director to make the decision for the department. It probably can make the decisions more quickly and have a better performance.
The brothers should accredit the senior production staffs to solve the problems from the computer systems.
It is recommended the brothers should let the staffs to use their own methods to work, and do not force them to use the computerised centralised stock ordering/dispatch systems.
It is strongly recommended that the company should follow the strategic business vision from the financial director.

Adorno talks about loosing a sense of identity and aura when mechanically producing images and Benjamin talks about pretty similar ideas. I will attach Adorno Benjamin and Hall’s essays.
