A competency based critical review of leadership and management in my work organisation Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

A competency based critical review of leadership and management in my work organisation.

In the previous assignment, we needed to set up a company to sell a format DVD about managing cultural difference in the same working environment. And we needed to record a 10mins video and do a presentation. And I did the marketing part with another teammate in the team. This assignment likes a reflective essay. The feedback of the previous assignment from my group mates is that I don’t have enough conversation with group mates, however, I am friendly, helpful, easy to work with, good at writing and patient. And in this assignment, we need to write a sociogram, and it should be related to the video in the meeting (we recorded videos in almost every meeting about the previous project); for example, I raised a problem in the meeting and everyone considered about it.

The work organisation assignment has enabled you to experience or observe the leading and managing of people at first hand. You have produced something through people in a simulated work organisation. The main purpose of the individual assignment is to give you the opportunity to observe, analyse and evaluate how specific leadership and management competences are demonstrated within the work organisation and recommend behavioural changes that could be introduced to improve working effectiveness. You are also asked to consider the portability of specific behaviours between different organisational or national cultures. (N.B. it is not intended that this assignment is focussed on your management or leadership but any demonstration of management and leadership behaviours, including your own, however underdeveloped.)
Individual Task:
Select one aspect of management competence, from the following list:
1) Assertive Behaviour
2) Coaching
3) Conflict resolution
4) Co-ordinating (chosen one by me)
5) Creative problem solving
6) Delegating
7) Influencing
8) Leadership.
9) Motivating
10) Negotiating
11) Team building
12) Any other agreed with the module leader

Specific requirements of the task:

Write an assignment entitled "A competency based critical review of leadership and management in my work organisation."

To complete this task write responses to the following 3 questions:
1) What specifically have you observed and learnt from the experience focussing on one management competence?
Use the various sources of observational data located in your appendix i.e. personal journal, video transcripts, peer feedback, questionnaire data and tutor feedback, with an appropriate range of management concepts from your study of the subject to interpret your experience.
It may help to think of this section like the finding and conclusion of a report
(Suggested length 1000 words)
2) Evaluate how what you have learnt concerning best practice of the competence should inform and change the practice of the competence for the future.
This should be undertaken by considering the specific work organisation which you participated in or observed.
(Suggested length 700 words)
It may help to think of this section like the recommendations of a report

3) Identify and explain whether the best practice of the competence discussed in question 2 could be transferred into an employment situation when operating in a work organisation in your own national culture. If you are a UK based student, consider the transfer of the competence into a work organisation with which you are familiar.
(Suggested length 300 words)

The following appendix items must be included as course requirement:
1. A relevant Personal development journal entry (minimum 1).
2. Video transcripts of relevant incidents. (minimum 6)
3. Results from MBTI and Belbin questionnaires
4. Sociograms (minimum 6)
5. Behaviour categorisation forms (minimum 6)
6. Emotiograms (minimum 3)
7. Team critique surveys (minimum 4)

Items that should help with the assignment:
1) Visual recording of meetings
2) Transcripts of important incidents from the video recording
3) Process observation (e.g. sociograms, emotiograms, behaviour catagorisation, and team critique survey.)
4) Results of questionnaire data.
5) Personal journal
6) Reading, lecture material, relevant articles
7) Reflection and thinking
8) Discussion with group members and facilitators
9) Week 8 discussion with your tutor about your Personal Journal entry.
10) Poster display in Week 6. This should demonstrate in pictorial form what you have achieved and what you need to do to successfully complete the project (see below for more details in item 3).
It is a requirement to submit 1 Personal Journal to your tutor as indicated in the semester plan. The Journal will be signed and commented on by the tutor. Failure to submit will undermine your individual course work since feedback will not inform your future personal journals.
It is requirement that the work organisation produces a poster display as indicated in the semester plan for the tutor showing:
1. What the group has achieved,
2. What remains to be done,
3. How the group has made decisions,
4. What problems the group have experienced or anticipate
5. How the group have delegated the tasks.

2. Evaluate how far Jinnikins Jeans would benefit from extending employee ‘voice’? (Formative Assignment)

Executive Summary:
Briefing the main problems of Jinnikins Jeans and identify them (for example):
The brothers make all the decisions for the company whether big or small decisions and it spends a long time to make decisions.
The senior production staff had offered to assist to solve out the computer systems problems, but the brothers preferred to keep using the project team system, and the problems cannot be solved.
The staffs do not like to use the computerised centralised stock ordering/dispatch systems, and they prefer to use their own methods.
Make a conclusion and recommendations for the executive summary. The brothers should extend what the employees say to develop the company and make the work more efficient.

Named Contents page:

Introduction:
Jinnikins Jeans is a clothing retailer which was established by two brothers, George and Trevor. The company produces and sells the jeans-wear and denim leisure wear, and it always position itself in the market of the age between teen to twenty something. Jinnikins Jeans mainly sells their products through departmental stores in major shopping centres and some large leisure outlet. It invested heavily in a purpose-built, and the overall gross turnover sharply decreased by 31%. The firm closed all the factories in the UK, and relocated its garment manufacturing to other countries to increase profit margins. However, the problems came out from the factories in overseas. There is lack of communication between the departments in the company.

Main body:
Show the research about the advantages of the communication between the employer and the employees in the business.
Show other case studies – the employer has a well communication with the employees and it can affect the business runs more efficiently.
The employees might know more details during the work, and the employees know what they need in the work.
The suggestions from the employees may help the company to improve the performance.

Conclusion:
The ‘voice’ from the employees may help the business runs more effectively, and it may help the company have a better performance.

Recommendation:
The firm should encourage Etty to organise Works Council for the employees, and it might increase the communication between the departments. The brothers also can get the feedback about the work from the employees, and improve the relationship.
The brothers should accredit the director to make the decision for the department. It probably can make the decisions more quickly and have a better performance.
The brothers should accredit the senior production staffs to solve the problems from the computer systems.
It is recommended the brothers should let the staffs to use their own methods to work, and do not force them to use the computerised centralised stock ordering/dispatch systems.
It is strongly recommended that the company should follow the strategic business vision from the financial director.

Analyzing a video clip and applying it to readings in the course Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

This is a VERY important paper. It is my take home final exam and I NEED an A. I will attach a bunch of information but basically this paper is going to analyze a video clip (which I will attach) and apply the video to different theories and writers. This is a research paper and needs to be motivated with a question and backed up by an argument. My question is: How has mass producing images changed our society. It is a research paper but three of the sources will be three essays that we have discussed in full in class and I will attach them. I will also attach the assignment. The three pieces of writing we have read in class have different theories and notions that apply to media and culture. I chose a video clip of a model talking about how mass producing images has changed her life. The three writers that are going to be analyzed are Benjamin, Hall and Adorno. Hall talks about decoding and encoding as well as semiotics and its important to apply those concepts to the video clip. Adorno talks about loosing a sense of identity and aura when mechanically producing images and Benjamin talks about pretty similar ideas. I will attach Adorno Benjamin and Hall’s essays. Please read them so you can apply their ideas to the video. I also did an in class presentation of this and this is the link of a prezi presentation I did about it to help you.

In Sophocles? play Antigone, the title character is a young, aristocratic, single woman trying to honor her family and the commandments of the gods, until she is condemned to death by her uncle Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

In Sophocles? play Antigone, the title character is a young, aristocratic, single woman trying to honor her family and the commandments of the gods, until she is condemned to death by her uncle, Creon, the king of Thebes, for doing what she believes is right. In the 1949 movie The Heiress, an adaptation of Henry James? novel Washington Square, Catherine Sloper, a na?ve, plain, socially retarded heiress, goes against the wishes of her autocratic father, Dr. Austin Sloper, only to be deserted by her fianc?, charismatic ladies? man Morris Townsend.

Antigone and Catherine are women of privilege and breeding who break the laws of powerful men in their lives, for someone they love. Ismene, Antigone?s sister, refusing to help Antigone bury the body of their outcast brother Polyneices, responds to Antigone:

Now look at the two of us, left so alone?
think what a death we?ll die, the worst of all
if we violate the laws and override
the fixed decree of the throne, its power ?
we must be sensible. Remember we are women,
we?re not born to contend with men. Then too,
we?re underlings, ruled by much stronger hands,
so we must submit in this, and things still worse.

I, for one, I?ll beg the dead to forgive me ?
I?m forced, I have no choice ? I must obey
the ones who stand in power. Why rush to extremes?
It?s madness, madness.

For your final essay, compare and contrast Antigone and Catherine, two fictional women who suffer by defending men in their lives, and discuss how authors in A World of Ideas would assess their situations. You have to corporate two quotes of each authors, no less than 8 quotes from our textbook: Virginia Woolf, Iris Murdoch, Germaine Greer, and Margaret Mead. Conclude your essay with what you believe is the thesis of the movie and what you believe is the thesis of the play, and whether and why you agree with each thesis.

The main weakness here is that you do not subject Pyrrhonian skepticism to any serious criticism Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The main weakness here is that you do not subject Pyrrhonian skepticism to any serious criticism. Handle criticism that it forces us to consider the belief that you are awake and really where you appear to be as a claim as spurious to saying you know who is going to win the next Superbowl. But aren’t these two types of claim fundamentally different, exactly because the latter is unjustified, while the former is justified?
